Meghan Markle Accused of Copying Kate Middleton to Boost Sales in Her Latest Video
Meghan and Kate have consistently showcased a surprisingly aligned sense of style over the years.
Meghan Markle, time and again, has sparked a wild debate online with her social media promotions for her lifestyle brand 'As Ever'. She has been actively accused of leveraging her status as the Duchess of Sussex to build connections and boost sales for her premium products, such as jams and honey. This strategy aligns her brand with a luxurious aesthetic reminiscent of royal estates. With her latest post, the Duchess has once again drawn inspiration from two of the most influential women from the royal family.
Markle highlighted her enthusiasm for summer with a new video on Instagram. The short reel showcased the Duchess in a vibrant outdoor setting, wearing a blue-and-white striped shirt and light trousers. Accompanied by the caption 'A basket full of summer,' which emphasized fresh seasonal produce and a garden-inspired theme. However, eagle-eyed fans paused to notice two subtle references to Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales.
First, Markle focused attention, in slow-motion style, on a basketful of fresh vegetables and fruits, but the highlight was the ring worn on her middle finger. It bore a striking resemblance to the late Princess Diana's engagement ring, which is now worn by Middleton. Secondly, the white-and-blue striped shirt paired with off-white trousers is similar to her 2018 Wimbledon outfit, which she wore when accompanying Kate. "It’s her old outfit from Wimbledon (which starts next week) - she wanted to remind everybody that she went once with Princess Catherine, so you’ll buy it - along with the flower sprinkles," @sallyhallada highlighted on X.
"Meghan Markle’s latest 'As Ever' video shows her wearing a new ring that resembles Princess Diana and Princess Catherine’s engagement ring!" @StephanieSidley reacted. However, this is not the first time Markle has given cues about her royal connection with the Princess of Wales. She drew inspiration from both Princess Diana and Middleton with her fashion choices while promoting her wine collection on Instagram. She wore a white Celine blazer, cropped trousers, and accessorized with Diana's gold Cartier Tank watch, evoking 1994 Diana's style. Additionally, her footwear choice, suede "Catherine" mules, subtly referenced Middleton, too.
According to Town & Country Magazine, Middleton and Markle often have distinct approaches to fashion; their wardrobes frequently overlap, demonstrating a shared appreciation for classic silhouettes, refined tailoring, and traditional patterns like tartan and plaid. For instance, Markle embraced the royal family's affinity for plaid during her visit to Wales, donning a Theory off-the-shoulder plaid jacket in 2018, reminiscent of a similar plaid outfit Middleton wore in Manchester in December 2017. The Duchess's plaid design is referred to as the Prince of Wales pattern.
