Why Prince Harry's UK Visit Could Leave the Palace Concerned About Prince William and Princess Kate

According to a new report, Buckingham Palace's biggest concern over Prince Harry's UK return may not be security after all!

The biggest problem with Prince Harry's upcoming visit to the UK with Meghan Markle and their two children was thought to be security. But according to sources, the Palace's concerns are reportedly more about optics. The main objective is to ensure the Duke and Duchess of Sussex do not appear to be on an official royal tour.

Rob Shuter revealed on his Substack, Naughty But Nice, that the reported tension is over how Harry's visit should be handled. Insiders claim he wants the trip to reflect his place within the Royal Family, while Buckingham Palace is said to be keen to keep it separate from any official royal business. A palace source told Shuter, “Harry believes he should be treated the way the Prince and Princess of Wales are when they travel overseas. He wants the full royal treatment because, in his mind, he’s still a prince.”

Another source said that the Palace is keen to avoid any headlines that could make it seem like Britain is hosting Harry and Markle on an official royal visit. They said, “The last thing the Palace wants is headlines suggesting Britain is hosting an official visit from the American prince and princess. Harry and Meghan are no longer working royals. The optics have to reflect that.”

Sources also claimed every part of the visit would be carefully planned, from where the Sussexes stay and who welcomes them to their transportation, security arrangements, and any public appearances. A source explains, “This isn’t about being petty—it’s about protecting the institution. William and Catherine represent the Crown. Harry and Meghan do not. The Palace can’t blur that line, even for a day.”

Another royal source close to the family suggested that both sides understand how much is at stake. Harry wants his birth status as the King's son to be acknowledged, while the Palace is focused on presenting the monarchy as it exists today, with a clear distinction between working and non-working royals. As a result, even the smallest details of any future visit could become a point of negotiation.

However, a reunion between King Charles and his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, might still be in the books. Charles has reportedly even offered Harry and Markle a place to stay during their visit, and they have yet to respond to his offer. But the King has made it clear that he will not be involved in any security-related decisions.

Security concerns surrounding the trip still remain unresolved. The Royal and VIP Executive Committee (RAVEC) has reportedly decided that Harry and his family will not receive full-time taxpayer-funded police protection during their visit. The verdict has left Harry “devastated and close to tears” after repeatedly arguing that his family cannot travel safely in the UK without adequate security.
