Princess Charlotte Follows In Her Mother's Footsteps — and Kate Middleton Couldn't Be More Proud
Earlier this month, Princess Charlotte was spotted enjoying the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with William, Kate and her brothers.
Princess Charlotte seems to be walking right into her mother, Kate Middleton's, sporty shoes as she joins an out-of-school netball team. Middleton has a reputation for being the sportiest royal, owing to her history of captaining the hockey team, playing volleyball, and much more; now, with Charlotte following in the same footsteps, the future Queen is sure to have a few tips for her daughter. According to sources, Charlotte, on the team, is competing at a high level across the country.
In a conversation with The Mail on Sunday, a source close to the Wales family shared that Prince William and Middleton, just like normal parents, are taking their daughter to every away match, pitching camping chairs on the sidelines and getting stuck in. However, while trying not to attract any special attention due to their royal status, the people around them are in awe. "All of the parents of the girls on the opposing teams are wondering whether or not they're going to run into William and Kate,' added the source.
Further in the conversation, hailing William and Middleton as parents, the source continued, "It's all very hands-on, and it would be funny to see them in such a down-to-earth environment, doing the early starts and long drives that everyone else has to do." Reportedly, the experience also gives William and Middleton the chance to enjoy a more relaxed environment and let their daughter explore what interests her. This is not the first time Charlotte's interest in netball has been picked up.
Earlier this month, she was spotted enjoying the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with William, Middleton, and her brothers. The young royal watched Australia take on Jamaica in the semi-final, then watched England play New Zealand. She was later seen posing with her mother and members of the Scotland team. During the event, William revealed that Charlotte "loves ballet and gymnastics." Middleton also spoke about her daughter’s love of dancing, revealing that her favorite part was 'the floor'.
But netball appears to be just another sport that has caught Charlotte’s attention. Middleton previously revealed in 2023 that she had been helping her daughter with her shooting practice. England netball player Ama Agbeze later said she had spoken with Middleton about the sport and learned that the Princess had been helping Charlotte improve her technique. It is also easy to see where Charlotte may have inherited her sporting side. The Princess of Wales played netball herself as a child and was part of an under-11s team at St Andrew's School in 1992.
She has also shown her competitive side at royal sporting events, famously playing volleyball in five-inch Russell and Bromley wedges at a SportsAid charity event in 2013, just months after Prince George was born. With Charlotte already showing an interest in netball, gymnastics, ballet, and running, it looks like the young Princess could be building quite the sporty reputation of her own. And with Kate as her biggest sporting inspiration, she certainly has the perfect role model at home.
