William Feels 'Massively Betrayed' as Harry Pitches Royal Comeback Plan to King Charles
Charles is reportedly open to discussions with Harry about his potential role in the family, which is reportedly making William fume.
While 'Megxit' famously launched the Sussexes' brand in Hollywood, Prince Harry has been forced to seek an intimate meeting with the King to secure his royal footing four years later. The brand he placed so much faith in faces growing financial headwinds, despite the former working royals’ efforts to stay in the spotlight. Looking ahead, the Duke plans to leverage his influence at the upcoming Invictus Games in Birmingham as an olive branch to his father. He has also reportedly scheduled several UK visits in the coming months to rebuild ties with the monarchy. This has created a tense dynamic with King Charles at the center, pulled between his two estranged sons. Royal experts note that the gradual thawing of relations between Harry and the King has left Prince William feeling "massively betrayed."
"The template for his visits has been working well, so the frequency of trips will increase, especially in the run-up to Invictus—which he’s determined to make the best games yet," a source close to the Duke told Roya Nikkah, royal editor of the Sunday Times. The source further added that Harry is planning to spend more time with his estranged family.
However, Tom Sykes of The Royalist Substack questioned the Duke's motives, highlighting in his newsletter that Harry's proposed reunions would raise eyebrows. He raised concerns over any potential secret meeting involving Charles, Camilla, and the Sussexes, contemplating whether Meghan Markle and the children would join and what strict measures would be taken to ensure confidentiality. These concerns follow reports that the Duchess was overheard spilling private palace details at a California dinner party—a breach brought to light by lifestyle guru Martha Stewart, who subtly reprimanded Markle for courting too much attention.
Such a reception will never satisfy Harry or his wife, Sykes noted, as the Duke aims to rebuild his royal career rather than be seen as a family outcast. The royal expert then explained that a significant challenge in Harry's plan is winning over his brother, Prince William, and his wife, Kate Middleton, who hold significant sway regarding any future UK resettlement for the Sussexes. "There’s no sign of any olive branches being offered from that quarter, however much Charles would like to see his sons reconciled. William felt profoundly, absolutely, unforgivably betrayed by his brother’s decision to spill all on their private lives in his best-selling ghostwritten memoir Spare, and in the interviews he did to promote it," Sykes stated. Furthermore, a source close to the family added that Prince Harry has mapped out a new arrangement to present to his father during his upcoming UK trip, sparking a strong reaction from William.
"William has been pressing [Charles] for more details, but His Majesty’s stance is that it’s simply none of his business at this point," a source told Women's Day. "He feels William has been incredibly hot-headed about the situation and wants to give Harry the chance to outline what he’s after. The King can always say no, and he feels perfectly capable of making that decision without his eldest son’s interference." Charles is reportedly open to discussions with Harry regarding a potential role, despite previous statements against a "half in, half out" arrangement. The insider suggested that Charles sees potential benefits for the monarchy in reconsidering the option. However, there are no guarantees about what the King will agree to, leading to feelings of betrayal from William.
