Prince Harry Made One Unexpected Admission About Kate Middleton — And William Wasn’t Happy

Prince Harry and Kate's relationship has undergone significant changes despite once being an unshakable bond.

Prince William and Prince Harry left their own mark at Eton College; however, the two brothers took different approaches to higher education. William initially enrolled as an art student at St Andrews but changed his subject to Geography in his second year. Harry opted out of university, and he made it clear in his tell-all memoir, Spare. The prince also stated that his father, King Charles, did not consider him a 'family scholar': "That was why he didn’t press me to go to university. He knew it wasn't in my DNA. Not that I was anti-university, per se," the Duke had written. Meanwhile, his book also surprisingly revealed his thoughts on Kate Middleton and her academic choices.

"In fact, the University of Bristol looked interesting. I’d pored over its literature, even considered a course in art history. (Lots of pretty girls took that subject)." Harry wrote in his book, directing the "pretty girl" reference towards Middleton. It is popularly known that the Princess of Wales pursued the subject at St Andrews, and she graduated with a Master of Arts (MA) with Honors in History of Art. "But I just couldn't picture myself spending years bent over a book. My Eton housemaster couldn't either. He'd told me straight-out: 'You’re not the university type, Harry.' Now Pa added his assent. It was no secret, he said gently, that I wasn’t the 'family scholar'," Harry highlighted. Further in his memoir, the Duke expresses no regrets about his decision to join the army rather than attend university. He also clarified that rumors about his regret circulating in the press were utterly false, HELLO! reported.

However, the very same book has caused irreparable friction between the two. Harry's portrayal of Kate in the later chapters made Prince William furious; the relationship was further strained when Kate refused to play peacemaker. Royal author Christopher Andersen, who gathered inside information from numerous sources for his book Kate! revealed that the Princess of Wales shut the door to any kind of reconciliation after Harry made insensitive remarks about Charles' cancer diagnosis. "The final straw came really shortly after the king was diagnosed with cancer, when Harry [essentially] said, ‘I’d like to mend fences because we just don’t know how long [my father] has to live,' Andersen told Fox News Digital. "It was hurtful to Kate as well," the royal author added, referencing Kate's own diagnosis and subsequent struggle period.

This has been evident since both Prince William and Kate chose to attend a charity polo match while the Sussexes made an emotional connection with King Charles at his Highgrove residence last month. Royal watchers and fans expected the Waleses to extend an olive branch, but it seems they are determined to maintain their distance despite Prince Harry trying to forge a line of communication.
