Reporter Recounts Embarrassing Moment Sarah Ferguson 'Charged' at a Waiter at a Party
Sarah Ferguson, who was known as a party girl in the 1990s, once made a dramatic beeline for a waiter carrying a tray of booze.
Perhaps, out of all the controversies tied to Sarah Ferguson, her alleged obsession with the occasional tipple may be the least of her woes. Long before she became synonymous with Jeffrey Epstein, the former Duchess of York was known for her party-girl persona in the 1990s, frequently photographed with a drink at glamorous soirées. It was at one such Christmas gathering that royal commentator Andrew Pierce claims he had to step in after she reportedly made a dramatic beeline for a waiter carrying a tray of booze.
At the time, Ferguson was newly divorced from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and allegedly struggling with financial difficulties. Commenting on the same, GB News presenter Pierce said on the Suddenly Single podcast, "She [Sarah] is a reckless spender. That's her problem." Speaking about his encounter with her at a Christmas gathering, he alleged, "Sarah Ferguson was there, and then a waiter in all his finery walked past with a tray of drinks. Sarah Ferguson went charging after him as if to get some wine. And I said: 'Sarah, you're not going to run out of alcohol at this party. There's going to be enough for all of us. It's got one of the finest wine cellars in London."
According to Pierce, the Christmas party was held in London's upmarket Lowndes Square with "all sorts of posh people there." However, he believed it was highly unlikely that Ferguson would ever be invited to such a party again, especially after her sketchy friendship with Epstein came to light. He scoffed. "She [Sarah] has taken herself off the social circuit completely. She's hanging her head in shame." In email exchanges released in the Epstein files, the former Duchess asked the disgraced financier for monetary help, even requesting $27,000 to cover her rent, while elsewhere suggesting she take on a role as his housekeeper for a salary of around $335,000.
Interestingly, Ferguson has spoken about her problems with alcohol, once admitting 'she was in the gutter,' to Oprah Winfrey in 2010. She said, "I haven't faced the devil in the face. Because I was in the gutter at that moment. I'm aware of the fact that I've been drinking, you know – that I was not in my right place," while speaking about the aftermath her infamous 'cash for access' deal, where she fell for two sting operators asking her for access to her ex-husband in exchange for money. Footage from the operation also showed her drinking, smoking, and slurring with her words.
That scandal pales in comparison to the controversy she is embroiled in now, which has cost her her royal titles and access to the Royal Lodge. She faced immense backlash after leaked emails revealed her unusual exchanges with Epstein, including one message in which she jokingly suggested he should 'marry' her. Moreover, she reportedly took her young daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, to lunch with him after his release from jail for indecent crimes against minors.
