The 66-year-old remains on a confidential government list covering senior members of the Royal Family, whose funerals are planned years in advance under the so-called “bridge” operations. US attorney Gloria Allred, who has represented several of Epstein’s victims, questioned whether he should receive a ceremonial royal funeral. She said the decision could send the wrong message to victims and also raise concerns about public money being used for the event.

Another lawyer who has represented Epstein victims, Spencer Kuvin, reportedly went a step further, calling the prospect of taxpayers helping fund Andrew’s funeral “an embarrassment to the Crown.” Conservative MP Alicia Kearns also raised concerns, stating there were “no circumstances” under which the former Duke should receive a royal funeral. Fellow Tory MP Joe Robertson echoed a similar view, arguing that any funeral should be paid for privately rather than by taxpayers.

There are also question regarding who would carry his coffin, as military personnel traditionally serve as pallbearers at royal funerals.

Despite losing his honorary military roles, Mountbatten-Windsor is a Falklands War veteran who served with the Royal Navy. According to retired Rear Admiral Chris Parry speaking to the Mail on Sunday, naval service members might still volunteer to carry his coffin due to his active military service and medals.
