Princess Eugenie Pays Tribute to the Late Queen With Newborn Daughter’s Name
Princess Eugenie had kept her newborn daughter's name a secret for days but has now chosen to finally announce it.
Thirteen days after giving birth to her baby daughter, Princess Eugenie has finally announced her name to the world, featuring an adorable tribute to her late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth. The princess has named her daughter Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank, with the middle name being an obvious nod to the late monarch. Baby Adelaide is Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank's, third child and first daughter. She was born in Portugal, becoming the third royal baby to be born outside the UK.
Adelaide was born on August 4th, 2026, and while Eugenie and the Palace shared the joyous news with the world, the newborn’s name was still kept under wraps. “Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts. Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home,” Eugenie shared on Instagram. Along with the heartwarming caption, the princess shared some adorable photos of the baby snuggled in a blanket, holding her family’s hands, and playing with her elder brothers.
Eugenie did not initially announce the name of her firstborn, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, when he was born in 2021, revealing it 11 days after his birth. The toddler’s middle name is a tribute to his late great-grandfather, Prince Philip. However, the York princess shared her second son, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank’s name right away during his birth announcement. “He is named after his great-great-great-grandfather George, his Grandpa George, and my Grandpa Ronald,” she wrote on Instagram.
Many royal children’s names have given a sweet tribute to the late Queen. Prince William and Kate Middleton named their daughter Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle used the late monarch’s nickname, Lilibet, as their daughter’s name. Both of Princess Beatrice’s daughters, Sienna and Athena, have ‘Elizabeth’ as their middle name.
The current senior working royals like William and Kate, or previously Harry and Markle, typically revealed their baby’s names within days. However, non-working royals usually take their time to share the special news. Adelaide is now 15th in the line of succession after her mother and two elder brothers. However, she will not hold the HRH titles, as she is not a direct grandchild of King Charles.
Eugenie and her elder sister, Beatrice, found themselves in a sticky situation after the discovery of their parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson's, involvement in the Epstein scandal. Their public image seemed to take a turn for the worse, but it seems they are still very much a part of the family as they attended Peter Phillips’ wedding to Harriet Sperling earlier this year.
