It’s no secret that Prince William is an avid football fan, often attending matches with his two eldest children, fistpumping the air when his team scores. The Prince of Wales has also passed on his love for football to his youngest and spoken about enjoying game nights with his children at home. It hence didn't come as a surprise when Kensington Palace, on July 23, announced that William will attend the Women’s Euros final on Sunday to cheer on the Lionesses. William's weekend outing is likely to earn him some cool points with Princess Charlotte, who is an ardent fan of the England women’s football team.

On July 27, William will watch the final of the European Women's Football Championship live at St. Jakob-Park in Basel and support his home country. After the Palace's announcement, the Prince and Princess of Wales posted a photo of the Lionesses on Instagram, captioning it, "Brilliant performance @lionesses! One game from glory! #WEURO2025."

As reported by People magazine, Charlotte has shown a particular interest in England’s women’s team. The Prince of Wales has previously described his daughter as a 'budding star' in soccer and even passed along a sweet message from her to the national team during a visit in 2022. He reportedly told the Lionesses, "Charlotte wanted me to tell you that she is really good at goal. She said, 'Please tell them that.'"

Back in 2023, the Prince also shared a heartfelt video alongside Charlotte, wishing the Lionesses luck for their final against Spain and apologizing for not being able to attend the match. As per Harper’s Bazaar, Charlotte had already made a charming cameo in 2022, appearing with her father in a sweet video posted on Kensington Palace’s social media ahead of the Women’s Euro 2022 final between England and Germany. Holding his daughter close to him, William said, "We both want to wish the Lionesses the best of luck tonight. You've done amazingly well in the competition, and we're rooting for you all the way!" Charlotte added, "Good luck! I hope you win. Bye!"

William’s upcoming appearance to cheer on the women’s soccer team isn’t the first outing likely to have impressed his daughter. According to People magazine, on June 30, the Prince of Wales visited the Lionesses at their training base at St. George’s Park to personally present their official jerseys. During the visit, he also spent time with head coach Sarina Wiegman, met several players’ families, and learned about the team’s strategies for the upcoming tournament; an experience that must've surely delighted Charlotte.

Coming back to William's attendance at the upcoming Switzerland matches, GB News reports that his decision to travel has been welcomed by England supporters following the lack of royal representation at the recent Lionesses' matches. William had also attended three of England's matches in Germany at Euro 2024 as the men's national team made it to the finals. Alongside Prince George, he watched the Three Lions suffer a 2-1 defeat to Spain in the final. Soon after, he stepped down as President of the Football Association.
