Prince William's Brutally Honest Remark To Gary Oldman Finally Revealed — and It's Hilarious

Prince William once made a brutally honest confession about watching a character and it was hilarious.

The Primetime Emmys wrapped up earlier this week, and the British spy thriller Slow Horses won an award for Outstanding Directing of a Drama Series.  It was awarded to Saul Metzstein. While the cast, crew, and fans of the popular show must be in a celebratory mood, Prince William will also be quite delighted with the news. The royal is not only a fan of the series but also had an amusing anecdote about it.

Gary Oldman, who plays Jackson Lamb in Slow Horses, mentioned on the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that he once spoke with William, and the Prince shared a brutally honest admission. And it came straight out of his renowned humor playbook. “It was William who said to me, 'Every time you come on the screen, I just want to give you a good wash',” Oldman said.

However, the Prince of Wales is not the only royal who enjoys watching Slow Horses. The Academy Award winner revealed that Queen Camilla was also a fan.  “I know that Camilla, the Queen, is a big fan because, well, I’ve run into her a couple of times. Like you do, you know. And she said: 'Are there any more? I hope it’s coming back, isn’t it?” he stated.

It is most certainly a compliment for anyone if the royal family told them they were fans of their work. Oldman mentioned that it was “hard to imagine” the royals watching his show from the palace. "So they’re big fans. It’s hard to imagine, isn’t it? There’s sort of one of the Windsors at the palace on their sofa – 'Slow Horses is nearly on',” he added. The series follows a dysfunctional team of MI5 officers as they navigate the treacherous world of espionage to defend England against sinister forces.

In September last year, William presented the veteran actor with a knighthood at Windsor Castle for his contribution to drama. Oldman got a special suit made for the “very emotional” occasion. And while he knew he would be knighted a few weeks in advance, he kept the news from his family until it was announced publicly. When asked about it, he stated the royal family had told him not to say anything, and he intended to “follow the rules”.

It seems that the Prince of Wales has a taste for thrillers, as royal biographer Robert Hardman revealed that his idea of a “fun evening” included watching the reality show The Traitors with his wife, Kate Middleton.
