Prince William’s "Idea of a Fun Evening" – Family Time with 'The Traitors'

Prince William may be the heir to the British throne, but he is not too different from you and me. At least when it comes to relaxing after a stressful workday. Like most millennials, he loves to unwind after a hard day by spending some time with his family and watching a little telly. And his choice of show might surprise many.
Reality TV is engaging and hooks into the minds of the audience before we know what is happening. And for the Waleses, it's The Traitors UK that has the whole family glued to their seats, trying to figure out the mystery. In his new book, Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. Her Story, royal biographer Robert Hardman revealed, “Prince William’s idea of a fun evening, says one of his team, is to ‘sit down with the Princess in front of The Traitors.’”
Previously, during an investiture ceremony for new recipients of the Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) held at Windsor Castle on Oct. 8, 2025, the Prince revealed to The Traitors producer Stephen Lambert that their whole family was a fan of the show. Lambert was among the OBE honorees named in the King's Birthday Honours list last year.
According to The Mirror, while presenting the OBE to the producer, William shared that settling down to watch the show with Princess Kate and their children is considered a “big treat” at home. He later admitted to one of the contestants from the 2025 celebrity spinoff season, Sir Stephen Fry, that the entire family was completely “locked into” the series as the mystery unfolded.
After the OBE ceremony, Lambert shared about his conversation with William, saying, “My award is for services to television, and we started talking about Celebrity Traitors. He said he and the family were very much looking forward to watching it. It was going to be a big treat for them and probably for the nation, he expected.”
The couple’s three children, Prince George, 13, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, are known to live phone-free lives for now; they do indulge in some screen time; and, as revealed, the reality show is a family favorite of sorts. The five of them enjoy some time together by sitting in front of the television and deduce who the “Traitors” and “Faithfuls” are.
The reality show is based on the Dutch series De Verraders, with the U.K. version being hosted by English presenter Claudia Winkleman. There is also a U.S. version of the reality series, hosted by actor Alan Cumming.
