Prince William May Never Escape One Question About Prince Harry, Royal Historian Says

While every situation eventually settles down, questions about one peculiar personal issue may continue to follow Prince William.

One of the royal family’s constant side hustles has been to put out fires. Whether it's King Charles and Princess Diana’s tumultuous marriage, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepping down, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s scandals, or the Sussexes’ enduring critiques. Their recent return to the UK has become another source of turbulence for the royals, but most importantly for Prince William. While the dust eventually settles on every situation over time, one question may never leave the future King.

When Harry and Markle visited the UK last week, they seemingly mended their relationship with Charles after meeting him privately at Highgrove. However, the same can’t be said for William and Kate Middleton, who had kept a safe distance from the family reunion. Several reports have since suggested that the Prince of Wales was over the royal drama and didn’t want to be involved with the Sussexes. However, his stance hasn’t really budged on the question of a possible reconciliation. And according to royal historian Amanda Foreman, he will always be asked that.

“It will be incredibly draining,” she said via PEOPLE. “They will always have to look over their shoulders and factor them in. And all they can do is deflect. Yet, they’ll get lots of jabs and questions: ‘When are you going to make up with your brother?’” As years go by, the chances of seeing that happen are growing bleaker.

There has seemingly been no meet-up between the brothers after Harry’s return to the UK last month. As the Duke of Sussex celebrated his 42nd birthday on Tuesday, and his first in his home country in a while, William stepped out for an important public engagement in Princetown near Devon. The Prince of Wales appeared unruffled by the recent developments.

There has been much speculation about the occasions that could spur the once-close siblings to reconcile. While Charles’ 78th birthday, Christmas at Sandringham, or their cousin Lady Amelia Spencer’s upcoming wedding may present such opportunities, Diana’s 30th death anniversary next year is being considered the most probable event. However, the two brothers have been under the same roof quite a few times over the past several years, but reportedly didn’t interact.

While the ties between them might have been severed, royal fans, especially those who have seen William and Harry grow up, will still hold out hope that they reconcile at some point. In the meantime, the Duke would be busy preparing for the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, and the Prince would be tied up with royal duties.
