Prince William Sends a Clear Message on Prince Harry's Birthday
On Prince Harry's 42nd birthday, Prince William fulfilled an important public engagement with a visit to Princetown.
On Tuesday, and more importantly, on his younger brother’s 42nd birthday, Prince William visited Princetown near Devon for an important cause. The moorland village welcomed the Prince of Wales with smiles and handshakes. On the other hand, more than a hundred miles away, Prince Harry celebrated his 42nd birthday, his first in the UK in several years. The physical distance between the brothers on Harry’s special day was perhaps another metaphor for the emotional distance.
William met with residents and community leaders, and also stopped by the community and culture hub, Gather & Moor. The main purpose of his trip to Princetown was to discuss the Princetown Community Fund. The fund will reportedly make around $336K USD available to support locally led social, economic, and environmental projects in the village near Dartmoor Prison.
The visit was important due to the controversial rent amount from the abandoned prison. Earlier this year, the Prince of Wales decided to stop using the hefty annual rent of around $20 million USD for personal benefits. The funding will be redirected to the local community that has been greatly affected by the 2024 closure of Dartmoor Prison. Grants of $673 USD to nearly $54K USD will be distributed through Devon Communities Together, which will also support the groups applying for funding.
Opting for a brown blazer for the occasion, William also tried his hand at using the printing press. The royal typed out a broadsheet and received a round of applause for his effort, as he joked via Hello! “There we go, excellent, and it's spelled correctly!” Admiring the fresh-off-the-press sheet, he said, “What's so lovely is how crisp each letter is.” Later in the day, the Prince also met with the youth club, which received financial support from the Duchy of Cornwall to improve its facilities.
Some hundred miles away, the Duke of Sussex rang in his 42nd birthday with Meghan Markle, and their kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The Duchess channeled her inner Patrick Brewer with the sweetest birthday video for Harry, stating that he was “simply the best”. The reel showed the birthday boy spending quality time with his children and sharing a kiss with his wife in a beautiful vineyard. The couple also seemed to go on a drive, as Markle posted a video of the same to her Instagram stories on Tuesday.
On a more professional front, Harry received brilliant news a day before his birthday as Uganda announced that it would rejoin the Invictus Games. The surprising decision was reached after King Charles intervened and spoke with the country’s military chief.
