Prince William Finally Acknowledges Family Drama As He Admits It ‘Overwhelms’ Him 'Quite a Bit'

Prince William recently opened up about his personal life and royal future in a conversation with Eugene Levy on The Reluctant Traveler. While the interview grabbed attention for his raw admissions on mental health, another subtle remark hinted at the royal family drama behind the scenes. After explaining how he hopes to blend modern values with ‘tradition’, the Prince of Wales admitted he felt more ‘overwhelmed’ by what was happening within his family than by his future responsibilities. His statement seemed to point toward ongoing tensions involving Prince Harry and Prince Andrew.

In the episode, Levy joined William for a tour of Windsor Castle before halting at a local pub for beer. The actor asked, "Do you ever get overwhelmed just by the sheer history of the place?" In response, William explained, "I think if you’re not careful, history can be a real weight and an anchor around you, and you can feel suffocated by it and restricted by it too much." After Levy pressed on what did, in fact, overwhelm the Prince, he revealed, "You know, worry or stress around the family side of things does overwhelm me quite a bit. But in terms of doing the job and things like that, I don’t feel too overwhelmed by that."

Although William did not explicitly mention his tensions with Harry or Andrew, he revealed that anything to do with his family ‘upsets’ the rhythm. He continued, "When it’s to do with family and things like that, then that’s where I start getting a bit overwhelmed — as I think most people would, because it’s more personal, it’s more about feeling, it’s more about upsetting the rhythm."
As per recent reports, the Prince of Wales is in a tiff with King Charles over Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s position in the royal fold. Meanwhile, his relationship with Harry continues to be on ice, not meeting his brother during the Duke’s September visit to the UK, which placed him only miles apart from William.

Despite his tensions with Harry, the Prince of Wales mentioned his estranged brother in passing during the segment. When Levy asked what he felt about his son, Prince George, taking to the throne one day, William replied, "Obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better." He continued, "I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past that Harry and I had to grow up with — and I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation."
William's candid interview also saw him open up about his mental health in 2024. He mentioned that last year was his most difficult one after Charles and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. He shared that being able to overcome that phase is what made him who he is. The Prince then issued a rare update on their health, saying, "Everything is progressing in the right way, which is all good news."
