Prince William Opens Up About Harry in Rare TV Appearance: ‘I’ll Do Everything I Can’

Prince William and Prince Harry have had a strained relationship since the Duke left his family in the UK to move to California. Their rift became more public following Harry’s bombshell interviews criticizing the Firm. While the feud continues, William recently took a walk down memory lane, speaking about the challenges he and Harry faced growing up. In conversation with Eugene Levy in The Reluctant Traveler, the Prince of Wales revealed that he hoped his son’s reign would avoid the regressive traditions he and Harry experienced during their early years.

In the episode, William graciously welcomed the actor, opening up about his life during a tour of Windsor Castle. When Levy asked what he felt about his son, Prince George, becoming King one day, William replied, "Obviously, I want to create a world in which my son is proud of what we do, a world and a job that actually does impact people’s lives for the better." He continued, "That is caveated with, I hope we don’t go back to some of the practices in the past, that Harry and I had to grow up with — and I’ll do everything I can to make sure we don’t regress in that situation."

William’s comments referred to the age-old pomp and traditions he and Harry had to adhere to during Queen Elizabeth’s reign. Both brothers are known to support a ‘modern monarchy’ free from regressive royal rules and committed to empathetic leadership. Elaborating on the same, the Prince of Wales told Levy that he hoped his son would bring about a positive ‘change.’ "Change for good. And I embrace that, and I enjoy that change. I don’t fear it. That’s the bit that excites me... the idea of being able to bring some change."
William and Harry may be estranged, but they seem to have a shared vision for the monarchy. Shortly after a trip to Africa in 2024, William spoke to reporters about his future reign. He said, "I can only describe what I'm trying to do, and that's I'm trying to do it differently and I'm trying to do it for my generation… And I think we could do with some more empathetic leadership around the world." From the other side of the coast, Harry echoed his brother's sentiments during a May 6 appearance at The Diana Award. There, he stressed, "From a younger generation standpoint, in an apathetic world, there’s more empathy in this generation than I’ve ever seen before…It’s the empathy, the authenticity, the truth, the honesty, and the fearlessness…"

As for his appearance on Levy’s show, William also opened up about how 2024 was his most difficult year after King Charles and Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis. He shared, "You know, life is sent to test us as well, and being able to overcome that is what makes us who we are." The Prince issued a rare update on his father’s and wife’s health, saying, "Everything is progressing in the right way, which is all good news."
