Prince Harry's Worst Fears Will Come True, Predicts Royal Expert
Although it has been years since Prince Harry was a part of the monarchy, one of his old fears might actually be taking form in the UK in his absence.
The siblings in the royal family may have their fair share of differences growing up, but perhaps their primary bone of contention eventually comes down to the clear and, at times, cruel distinction between the heirs and spares. In his memoir, aptly titled "Spare," Prince Harry even detailed how he was always treated differently from his older brother, Prince William, who would one day ascend the throne. However, now that William’s children are growing up and Harry is living far away from the UK, one of his old fears might actually come true.
In recent times, William’s oldest son and future king, Prince George’s impending decision over his choice of secondary school has taken over headlines. His fame seems to be on the rise, just as his uncle’s star seems to be on the wane. Royal expert, Andrew Morton, told the Daily Mail, “The issue that always concerned Prince Harry, that he would be overshadowed by his brother's children, is coming true.”
After leaving the royal family in 2020, Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, have now settled in their Californian dream life in Montecito, with their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. However, the new move has also dragged the Duke of Sussex away from the popularity he once received in the UK. That position is now probably being won over by his young nephew. “George is looking every inch a very handsome young man, and the big debate is now: where are they going to send him to school?” Morton further added.
While his parents, William and Kate Middleton’s respective alma maters, Eton College and Marlborough College, are reportedly being considered among George’s future schools, Morton had a different option in mind. One that might open doors for Princess Charlotte as well. “'My guess is Oundle. They have already been there to have a look around. Maybe that's going to be the school for Charlotte, too,” Morton suggested.
If George does choose to go to Oundle, it will be a serious break from tradition, as the school has never had a royal pupil before. However, Morton mentioned, “They could decide to send all three of them to the same school, and a mixed private school would fit the bill.” Currently, George, Charlotte and Prince Louis are studying at Lambrook School. William had recently revealed that his oldest son had been boarding in preparation for his secondary education.
As the schooling decision draws closer, Eton still cannot be completely taken out of consideration. Not only is it a prestigious school, but William reportedly had “very happy school days there”. However, given William’s take on modernising the monarchy, he might opt against following “the structure of the Royal Family and those traditions” and decide to send George “somewhere very different from how he was educated.”
