Prince Harry’s recent BBC interview is exactly what the royal family was reportedly dreading. During the interview, Harry opened up about losing his legal battle for state-funded security and spoke of his ongoing rift with his family. At one point, he made a cryptic remark suggesting that some people want to put him in danger. When asked who he meant, Harry delivered a sharp response that could spell trouble for King Charles and Prince William.
Harry accused the royal family of intentionally removing his security to pull him back into the Firm, discouraging the move to the US. As reported by the Daily Express, when asked who exactly put him and his wife and kids in ‘harm's way', Harry responded, “I'm not going to share, at this point.” The outlet notes that allegations of that severity would bring extreme public backlash to an individual. Harry's three words: ‘At this point,’ suggested that he could potentially expose the name of the said individual at some point in the future.
While Harry has chosen to be somewhat discreet for now about the person's name, he wasn't so tight-lipped when discussing his relationship with his father. Critics slammed Harry for being insensitive when referring to his father's health, as he had bluntly said he didn't know if Charles had much time to live. Many noted that this doesn't help anyone and would only reignite public concern. Harry said, “Life is precious. I don't know how much longer my father has, he won't speak to me because of this security stuff. It would be nice to reconcile.” A royal source lambasted the Prince’s comments, telling ITV, “The King is a kind man with a warm heart and quite enough on his plate to deal with, without all this from his own son. The remarks about his illness were in particularly poor taste and of course suggest something entirely contrary to the reality.”
Meanwhile, royal expert Hilary Fordwich claimed the King was reportedly ‘horrified’ over Harry’s hurtful comments in the interview. The expert told Fox News, “King Charles sees his wayward son’s approach to detailing private family disputes in interviews, books, and on television as in direct violation of not just royal norms but undignified and contrary to all basic decency.” A friend of the monarch also echoed Fordwich’s claims and told The Sun, “What has frustrated and upset him on a more personal level is the Duke’s failure to respect this principle. And, for his supporters to suggest that somehow his father doesn’t care about his family, or should step in.”
The Duke of Sussex, in his interview, also claimed that the royal family “signaled to every single government around the world not to protect us [Markle and their kids].” According to a report by the Daily Beast, William has allegedly ‘had enough’ of his younger brother's antics. A former courtier told the outlet that the Prince of Wales strongly believes Harry must be 'completely cut off' from the Firm. The insider added, “And the chaos of a royal succession is always a good moment to make decisive changes. It will be among the first things he will do.” Reportedly, William plans to strip the Sussexes of their HRH titles once he becomes King.
