Prince Harry Makes First UK Appearance Without Meghan Markle — but With a Surprising Familiar Face
Prince Harry stepped out for his maiden UK engagement since his comeback last month for his passion project.
Prince Harry has finally undertaken his first-ever engagement in the UK weeks after returning to his home country for an extended stay. The Duke of Sussex looked dapper in a black-tie outfit as he stepped out for the debut edition of the Invictus Games Spirit Awards and Gala at the Royal Naval College in London. The war veteran also sported his military medals on his blazer.
While many fans had hoped Meghan Markle would join him for the glitzy night, Harry appeared solo. The gala is not only his first public engagement in the UK since his comeback, but it is also his first official public outing. And he appeared joyous as ever as he arrived at the venue, grinning widely and waving at onlookers. There is no secret that the Invictus Games are his passion project, and he has worked tirelessly on them even after leaving the monarchy in 2020.
The maiden Spirit Awards promise to “recognize the people whose courage, commitment and contribution have made a lasting difference to the Invictus Movement” and to celebrate their “stories of resilience and dedication that continue to inspire and support our international Invictus Community”. Winners across four categories will be announced and awarded tonight for the Invictus Movement Award, Invictus Community Award, Invictus Resilience Award, and Invictus Champion Award.
The Duke was joined by British rugby star and his brother-in-law, Mike Tindall's close friend, James Haskell, for the gala. Tindall and Haskell run a podcast, The Good, The Bad, and The Rugby, together with broadcaster Alex Payne. Military veterans Steve Arnold and Josh Boggi also attended the gala and even took selfies with Harry.
Harry has had a few rocky days just before the gala. Uganda’s participation in the 2027 Invictus Games was announced in July, but the country pulled out of the tournament after Buckingham Palace released a guidance letter clarifying the Sussexes were not working royals. However, King Charles seemingly intervened and convinced Uganda to reverse their decision.
Harry’s outing came hours after his estranged relatives, Prince William and Kate Middleton, made a day-long trip to their namesake town of Rothesay. It was the couple’s first visit to the Isle of Bute, and they made the most of it. The pair tried their hand at shinty, helped with litter picking, drove a tractor, and ended the day with a visit to the local pub.
