King Charles Proves He Still Has Prince Harry's Back as Uganda Rejoins Invictus Games
King Charles has come to Prince Harry’s aid after Uganda reversed its Invictus Games withdrawal.
Ties between Buckingham Palace and the Sussexes might be strained, but King Charles recently proved that he will always stand up for his son Prince Harry whenever he can. Days after pulling out of the Invictus Games, Uganda has decided to participate again, following a call with the monarch. For the unversed, the country had joined the coveted tournament just two months ago in July this year.
The King's principal private secretary, Sir Clive Alderton, spoke with Uganda’s military chief, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, recently and told him that the monarch has "no problem" with the countries participation in the Invictus Games. The telephone conversation was clearly fruitful, as Kainerugaba was convinced to rejoin the Invictus Games. Acting Director Defence Public Information Chris Magezi shared a post on X, which was later reposted by General Kainerugaba and stated, “In the telephone conversation, General Kainerugaba appreciated the King’s message and the clarity provided by Buckingham Palace on the subject, promising that the UPDF would resume preparations to participate in the upcoming games."
The entire fiasco reportedly began when Charles released a letter clarifying that Harry and Meghan Markle were no longer working royals and were living in the UK in a private capacity. Calling the matter a “Harry-Meghan nonsense”, the military chief had published an overnight statement, saying, “In order not to be construed as being opposed to His Majesty King Charles III of the United Kingdom, whom we deeply revere, Uganda hereby withdraws from the Invictus Games.” He further added that Uganda would not participate in anything that doesn’t have “His Majesty's approval."
At the moment it appears the 2027 Invictus Games will go ahead as planned from July 10th to 17th next year in Birmingham. While the tournament will certainly be a spectacle, royal fans have attached heavy personal stakes to the event. It is expected that the competition may become a stage for Harry’s reconciliation with the royal family. There had been a lot of speculation surrounding both parties after the King released the guidance letter. While there is a lot of noise surrounding the Invictus Games, Charles and Harry’s relationship, and the Sussexes’ return to the UK, the monarch has found a neutral path through it all by coaxing Uganda into joining the tournament once again.
While Harry’s professional complications have seemingly lessened, the same can’t be said about Markle. There is still a lot of push and pull regarding her supposed role in The Gentlemen season 3 with no concrete denial or confirmation from either side.
