Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle Sr., is currently under investigation over child abuse allegations, with the case still in development. The accusations came to light after his son submitted a stash of evidence to the authorities in the Philippines. Meanwhile, Markle Sr. has returned to the United States and has reportedly been moved to a facility for patients with dementia.

Markle had been receiving medical care at a Florida rehabilitation center since May following the amputation of his lower left leg. However, he was moved to a different facility on Friday, October 30, to a definitely facility that reportedly provides specialized support for patients experiencing memory-related conditions.
The allegations first surfaced after the Duchess’ father returned to the US after living in the Philippines with his son, Thomas Markle Jr., for over a year. The latter reportedly approached authorities after discovering a collection of child sexual abuse images among his father's possessions. Markle Sr. had left the country before that following the amputation of his leg, with reports of his dementia diagnosis emerging amid the ongoing investigation.

The reported diagnosis could also create complications for the investigation, according to Florida attorney Spencer Kuvin, who has represented victims of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He said, “You can't just barge into a memory care facility and conduct an interview. Any decent lawyer would be able to get that interview struck [off], and the FBI know that.”
Meanwhile, prosecutors in the Philippines have warned that Markle Sr. could face the full force of the law if he is found guilty of possessing child sexual abuse material. A conviction for the offense carries a potential prison sentence of up to 12 years in the country.
The latest developments have also brought renewed attention to how Markle first learned about the allegations against her father. In 2019, a letter from Markle Sr.'s first wife, Roslyn Loveless, reached the Metropolitan Police before being forwarded to the Sussexes' office.

According to reports, a royal protection officer advised the Suits star against speaking publicly about its contents, assuring her that the matter would be investigated. However, the Met is now facing an independent watchdog investigation over its handling of the letter, while efforts to identify the officer involved are reportedly ongoing.
