Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s scandal, linked to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, did not just cause an uproar among the public, but it also ruffled a few feathers inside the palace. According to royal biographer Christopher Andersen's new book titled Kate!: The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen, Kate Middleton was an active participant in pushing the ex-prince out of the royal family's inner circle.
Once Mountbatten-Windsor’s allegations of sexual misconduct with a minor, Virginia Giuffre, resurfaced, he was banished from the family. King Charles stripped his royal titles and also evicted him from the royal lodge. The new book claims that following that, Middleton kept Andrew away from all of her events and barely spoke to him, even at family gatherings.
Moreover, Andersen also quoted a volunteer staffer from the Princess of Wales’ Christmas carol event who claimed she shut down a request to let Mountbatten-Windsor quietly slip in through a side entrance just to watch. They said, “She is a very kind and forgiving person, but not when it comes to abusing children.”
Middleton also told a friend that she was “physically sickened by the damage Andrew’s actions were doing to the institution her children would one day inherit.” However, it was not just she who wanted Mountbatten-Windsor as far away as possible from the family, but Queen Camilla and Prince William urged Charles to remove Andrew from royal life once and for all.
But there was another reason for William to push Mountbatten-Windsor from the royal fold. According to journalist Richard Kay, the former prince was far from welcoming when William first brought Middleton into the royal circle, and those comments reportedly stuck with the prince for years. “Differences between monarch and heir do remain, especially when it comes to the Prince Andrew scandal. William has long held a grudge against Andrew for being unwelcoming when he first introduced the then Kate Middleton to the royal family and feels that his father has been too soft on him,” he said.
Furthermore, William and the rest of the royal family have reportedly been trying to figure out how to remove Andrew from the line of succession. Both the Prince of Wales and the King are said to be frustrated by the legal complications involved. Even after losing his royal titles, Mountbatten-Windsor still remains eighth in line to the throne. A source said, “They would love to see swift action, but the system itself is so complex that even beginning that process raises questions that do not have straightforward answers."
On Mountbatten-Windsor’s 66th birthday, things took another dramatic turn when he was reportedly arrested following the release of new Epstein files on February 19. He was questioned over allegations that he shared sensitive information with the late financier while serving as a UK trade envoy. Although he was later released, authorities are still continuing their investigation.
