Lady Colin Campbell is not a fan of King Charles III's "slimmed-down monarchy," and the outspoken aristocrat has labeled the decision a "terrible mistake" in the wake of His Majesty's cancer diagnosis. The bestselling author feels that there are "too few working feet on the ground" when Kate, Princess of Wales' surgical recovery is considered as well.

During an interview with GBN's Nana Akua, Lady C mentioned that Prince Edward and Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh's children, Lady Louise Windsor and James, Earl of Wessex, should be elevated to working royals.

"He's a really nice man, and I don't know Sophie personally, but I have friends who know her very well, and they have very good reports of her," the aristocrat said of the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, who are both now classed as senior, working royals. "He's divine, and I think he's wonderful. I would hope that their children will be incorporated as working royals."

She added: "I think it was always a terrible mistake that they were not known by their rightful rank of Prince and Princess, and that they were not earmarked to join the rank of working royals from birth."

A palace source revealed that King Charles 'completely ignored' Princess Anne's warnings about his 'slimmed-down monarchy.'

"It's turned out that we now have too few feet on the ground, and we need Louise and we need James as well for the coming generation," Lady C observed. "Otherwise, we're going to have far too few royals."

Akua voiced her agreeance by stating: "We can't have that. I love the royal family. We all love the royal family. Most British people realize they are better than a bunch of politicians."

This insight comes after it was revealed that Princess Anne, another critic of the diminished monarchy, was not a fan of King Charles III's idea for a "slimmed-down monarchy," and her views were reportedly "ignored" by the monarch.

"Well, I think the 'slimmed-down' [monarchy] was said in a day when there were a few more people around to make that seem like a justifiable comment," the Princess Royal shared during an interview before Charles III's coronation.

"That is the backbone of royalty because that is what makes people in this country feel that the royals are worth having," Lady Colin Campbell dished in September 2023, when discussing all the charity work numerous royal family members contribute to Britain.

Anybody who does any charity work in the U.K. knows most of the work the royals do is behind the scenes," Lady C added. "About 98 percent of it is never reported upon, and it’s a big mistake to think that that doesn’t count."

"I think he’s guilty of stupidity. The fact of the matter is I have seen for over 20 years that Charles' idea of slimming down the monarchy is unworkable," the aristocrat revealed.
