Taylor Swift Snubs Meghan Markle at Her Wedding, But Invites This Other Royal Couple Instead
Getting invited to the Swift-Kelce wedding became a race, a status symbol, as numerous high-profile individuals lobbied to get an inside pass.
Meghan Markle was looking forward to attending the 'social event of the decade' ― but allegedly didn't receive an invitation. The Duchess of Sussex was hoping to be invited to Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's star-studded wedding, viewing it as a golden opportunity to mingle with Hollywood's biggest names and strengthen her standing among the entertainment elite. Instead, she and Prince Harry were allegedly left off the guest list for what sources claim was a very personal reason.
Royal journalist Rob Shuter quoted sources on his Naughty But Nice Substack that as the Swift-Kelce wedding was confirmed, representatives for various celebrities sought invitations to what was being dubbed the social event of the decade. "People were calling favors and working every connection they had," an insider revealed to Shuter. And surprisingly, among them was the Duchess of Sussex. "Meghan wanted to be there," the insider highlighted. "But Taylor and Travis weren’t inviting people for headlines. They invited the people they genuinely wanted to celebrate with."
However, sources noted that Swift's closest royal link is with the Waleses, who were invited following a secret meeting with Swift and Kelce in London before the wedding. Although the Prince and Princess of Wales chose not to attend in New York, their invitation reflects a long-standing friendship.
"She and Travis really enjoyed spending time with William and Kate. That’s where the connection is," the source disclosed. This bond was on full display recently when Prince William unexpectedly appeared on the New Heights podcast hosted by the Kelce brothers, just hours before Travis' wedding on July 3, 2026. During the episode, he shared his enthusiasm for soccer and fond memories of meeting the couple at Swift's The Eras Tour in 2024. Meanwhile, Markle couldn't make the cut into the 1,000-guest list since the A-list Hollywood couple wanted the day to signify their relationship without attracting negative publicity. "This wasn’t just about who was most famous," the insider concluded. "It was about who Taylor and Travis actually wanted in the room."
According to Alison Boshoff of the Daily Mail, the Sussexes enjoyed associating with famous individuals, finding excitement in name-dropping. However, as their lives changed following Megxit and their move to California in 2020, many of those friendships reportedly faded. Boshoff noted that only a small number of A-list figures still appear to be close to the couple. A source told the columnist, "The people who have stayed most loyal to them are beneath them and get something out of it. Everyone else they fall out with."
