Princess Anne Brings Back Iconic 42-Year-Old Gown as She Attends Centenary Banquet [Watch]
Princess Anne stepped out in this iconic dress from 1984 and royal fans are impressed!
Princess Anne is not just known for being the ‘hardest-working royal’ but also for her sustainable approach to fashion. During a recent banquet at London's Guildhall, the Princess Royal stepped out in a floral gown first seen more than four decades ago—and it looked just as elegant as it did in 1984.
For her latest outing, Anne reached for a floral gown that had been sitting in her wardrobe for 42 years, and royal fans did not mind at all. Safe to say, it has aged pretty well, and fans loved seeing the vintage piece make another appearance. She wore the dress to the Honourable Company of Master Mariners' Centenary Banquet at the Guildhall on Thursday. Watch the video here!
The Princess Royal attended the event as Past Master and was joined by her husband, Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence, as well as her brother, the Duke of Edinburgh. She picked a flowing pale yellow dress with a delicate pink floral pattern for the evening, and eagle-eyed royal fans were quick to point out that she first wore it during an official trip to Nigeria in 1984.
An X user said, “She is so perfect! That's a dress that the last Princess Royal might just as well have worn. Completely classic.” Meanwhile, another royal fan was left in awe, saying, “I love her dress! (And given it's Anne, is it something she wore 20 years ago...?)”
Even after 42 years, the dress still looked like a winner. It featured a square neckline under a sheer cape-style layer with subtle stripes, while soft pink rose prints added a romantic touch. The flowy silhouette made it easy to see why the vintage piece has stood the test of time. Anne kept the rest of her look simple with white opera gloves, gold jewelry, cream pumps, and a gold clutch, letting the decades-old gown do all the talking.
Previously, Anne revived an iconic hat at her son Peter Phillips's wedding to Harriet Sperling. She first wore the accessory at Zara Tindall’s christening in 1981.
