Meghan Markle Revives a Beyoncé-Approved Fashion Trend ― and the Nod Is Hard to Miss
Meghan Markle treats fans to a new family photo carousel featuring Prince Harry, Prince Lilibet, and a sweet nod to pop icon Beyoncé.
Old-fashioned trends always have a way of coming back into style, and the past few years have been no exception. Billie Eilish popularized bucket hats, Lady Gaga has been a modern pioneer for camp, and more recently, Beyoncé brought back the denim-on-denim trend with her album Cowboy Carter. Now, Meghan Markle has proved her loyalty to the Beyhive by styling denim-on-denim in her latest Instagram post.
On Tuesday, the Duchess of Sussex took to her official social media page to usher in spring with an adorable photo dump and a respectful nod to Beyoncé. While Princess Lilibet’s shirt featuring a drawing of the iconic singer was the most obvious tribute, Markle chose to pay homage to her favourite artist in her own style. In one of the photos, she was seen pairing light blue washed jeans with a denim shirt. She completed her look with a dainty chain, a perfect bow to Queen Bey.
In 2024, Beyoncé revived the denim-on-denim trend when she posed in a double denim look in one of the promotional shoots of her album Cowboy Carter, which was themed around the Wild, Wild West. Markle has often talked about her love for the Grammy award-winning singer. For instance, during her Netflix docu-series, Harry & Meghan, the Duchess mentioned that the pop icon had messaged her after she and Prince Harry had stepped down as senior working royals. “Beyoncé just texted,” she told the Duke, who gave out a cheeky gasp. “'Just checking in,” Markle read, before exclaiming, “I still can't believe she knows who I am!”
Beyoncé had reportedly sent a message of solidarity to the Duchess. “She said she wants me to feel safe and protected. She admires and respects my bravery and vulnerability and thinks I was selected to break generational curses that need to be healed,” Markle added. Harry nudged his wife to give the singer a call, but Markle turned down the suggestion. The segment, lasting hardly a couple of minutes, opened the floodgates of a new controversy for the couple, with many critics accusing Markle of mixing truth with fiction.
Markle and Beyoncé had previously met in 2019 during the European Premiere of Disney’s ‘The Lion King’. Last year, the Sussexes attended Beyoncé’s concert and posed happily in cowboy hats. The Duchess even posted their pictures from the night, saying, “About last night…. Thank you, Beyonce and team, for an amazing concert (and a very fun date night)! All love.” The couple definitely seemed on theme with Cowboy Carter.
From her latest post, it seems that the Duchess’s love for Queen Bey hasn’t diluted one bit, and she has probably welcomed her daughter, Princess Lilibet, into the fandom as well. Well, the Beyhive now likely has another royal humming to the artist’s songs.
