Prince William Accused of Being ‘False’ After Fans Spot One Detail About His Outing With Robert Irwin
Prince William and Robert Irwin's appearance at a climate event was meant to inspire change, but fans quickly focused on something else.
Prince William and Robert Irwin have long shared a friendship focused on environmental conservation. Their mutual respect was evident during their recent appearance in London, where they hosted the Earthshot Prize Impact Assembly as part of London Climate Action Week, aiming to promote innovative solutions and inspire future change-makers. True to their dedication, they arrived at the venue on an electric bus, reflecting the city's move towards zero-emission transport. The Prince of Wales' reunion with Irwin, a global ambassador for the prize, showcased their passion for a common goal. However, despite the event's positive focus, fans soon accused the Prince of displaying performative behaviour towards Irwin.
A video posted on X by @Rimmesfk highlighted that the Australian conservationist and zookeeper was left stranded in sweltering heat right after the event, while William left the venue in his cozy Range Rover. "When Prince William was done with his Photo Op arriving on the Green bus with Robert Irwin, after the event, Robert was left in the streets of London in this 37 degree heat in what appears for him & his team waiting for transport, while William’s AC’d Range Rover picked him up from the entrance," the tweet noted. Another user remarked, "How did they get to the venue for that photo OP they should’ve left the same way!!" It further stated that Robert sought shade and a drink while navigating London streets to find transport. The narrative critiqued the Royals for their lack of relatability, implying they deceive the public with staged appearances.
Additionally, it questioned William's decision to allegedly abandon Irwin, whom he considers close, in the heat instead of ensuring his comfort as a guest. Fans were left divided, with some implying that the Prince of Wales had another engagement to attend, while others stated that maybe he had to return to his royal residence.
Mainly, most fans believed their appearance was staged. "Shows how false William is. Robert probably thinks he’s a friend. Truth is, he’s just a convenient PR prop to help William boost his image," one user added. Similarly, highlighting another issue, fans criticized the Prince for using a motorcade while departing despite arriving in an eco-bus. A video posted on X by @NoKingCharlie showcased the Prince of Wales departing from the event. He is seen walking toward a black SUV, which appeared to be part of a larger convoy, following his appearance at a photo opportunity involving an eco-bus. The post characterized this departure as a contrast to the environmental nature of the event.
Critics highlighted a hypocrisy involving the Prince's use of an eco-friendly bus for a photo op, contrasting it with his typical, more carbon-intensive travel methods like private jets and helicopters. The bus, part of London's zero-emission fleet aimed at enhancing air quality, was juxtaposed against the royal family's broader travel practices and reliance on large entourages.
