Kate Was Willing to Forgive Harry ― Until He Said One Thing About King Charles, Author Claims
Prince Harry twice made missteps that deeply hurt Kate Middleton, with one specific remark leaving the Princess of Wales particularly disappointed.
Kate Middleton and Prince Harry shared an unshakeable bond, but all that changed over one remark that left Kate with no choice but to burn the bridges between them. The Princess of Wales tried to act as a peacemaker between Prince William and Harry despite their differences; however, royal author Christopher Andersen claims that Kate was 'done' with the Duke of Sussex after he spoke spitefully about King Charles' health.
"She would not give up," Andersen told Fox News Digital, adding, "Even after Harry threw William under the bus in his memoir ‘Spare,’ she was willing to keep trying. And the final break came really shortly after the king was diagnosed with cancer, when Harry [essentially] said, "I’d like to mend fences because we just don’t know how long [my father] has to live." The Princess was apparently genuinely hurt by the heartless comment because she, too, was fighting cancer at the time. Such words can be very distressing to cancer patients who are hesitant to face their own mortality, the author of Kate!: The Courage, Grace, and Power of the Woman Who Will Be Queen noted.
The monarch's cancer diagnosis was made public in February, 2024, coinciding with the start of his treatment, while the Princess of Wales announced her own diagnosis through a personal video message in March, revealing that she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy. Andersen further claimed that Kate was hurt by the circumstances surrounding the King's health, prompting her to halt any further attempts at reconciliation. "She wasn’t going to try anymore. So she has not," the author stated, indicating there is little prospect for a future reconciliation between them.
Meanwhile, Kensington Palace did not issue any clarification regarding the author's comments. Buckingham Palace, however, previously told the publication, "We don’t comment on such books." In May 2025, Harry emotionally repeated the same sentence during an exclusive with the BBC, remarking, "I would love reconciliation with my family." He continued, "There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore. I don’t know how much longer my father has." While his efforts to mend his relationship with his father remain strong, his views on the monarch's frail health continue to keep him at a distance.
According to Andersen, Kate was "disappointed" with Harry, while William was characterized as "apoplectic" with wrath over his statements, per a courtier. "Princess Catherine is the sweetest, most loving person you could ever know," a royal staffer from Sandringham told Andersen. "But like everyone else, she has her limits," Andersen concluded by stating that Kate is committed to her role as Princess of Wales and future queen, valuing devotion without jeopardizing her family's welfare.
