King Charles was diagnosed with cancer last year. Buckingham Palace, however, did not confirm what type of cancer the King is battling, and details about his treatment have been kept under wraps. In a rare moment, the King recently shared an update about his health with a student at the Education and Skills Garden Party and revealed how a well-planned diet can be helpful in fighting cancer.
During the garden party, Charles shared his words of wisdom with Exeter University student Stamford Collis, who is currently undergoing cancer treatment himself. Collis later told The Telegraph, “He was asking me about the treatment I have started in June and spoke to me about food and diet. He also asked me if I had undergone radiation treatment, which I had earlier this year.” Charles was heard saying, “It’s sometimes about the diet and what you eat. It can help.”
The Sovereign’s cancer diagnosis shocked the public as it came only 2 years after the late Queen was reported to have succumbed to bone cancer. Ahead of his announcement, in January 2024, Charles underwent a procedure for an enlarged prostate. As such, people believed he was suffering from prostate cancer, but a spokesperson clarified otherwise. The King took a three-month break from all public-facing work and resumed his duties in April last year. Earlier this year, the Palace shared that Charles was briefly hospitalized after facing a side effect from his treatment. He was admitted to the London Clinic for observation, and sources confirmed it was “the most minor bump in the road that’s very much heading in the right direction.”
Last month, Charles shared a note of recognition for all community-based cancer support groups. As per the release, he thanked the groups for selflessly caring for those getting diagnosed with cancer. He stressed, “Each diagnosis, each new case, will be a daunting and at times frightening experience for those individuals and their loved ones. But as one among those statistics myself, I can vouch for the fact that it can also be an experience that brings into sharp focus the very best of humanity.” He continued, “It has certainly given me an even deeper appreciation of the extraordinary work undertaken by the remarkable organizations and individuals gathered here this evening.”
Praising their efforts, he called it a “community of care” and lauded the “profound impact of human connection” that it offers. The monarch further repeated the kind words of late Dame Deborah James and said, “Find a life worth enjoying; take risks; love deeply; have no regrets; and always, always have rebellious hope.” He called the late journalist, who died battling cancer for six years, an inspiration for all patients. Charles also wished more power to those who have been diagnosed with the disease. Besides Charles, Sarah Ferguson, and Kate Middleton were also diagnosed with the same, but are in remission.
