Kate Middleton's One Quality the Royal Family Needs in This 'Turbulent' Time
Kate Middleton is one of the most consistently popular royals and that always reflects positively on the monarchy as well.
The last few years haven’t been quite the easy ride. The royal walls have been shaken with controversy more times than one can count, but through it all, one beloved royal emerged as a pillar for the monarchy. And that is none other than Kate Middleton. She carried the royal ship through some of the most treacherous waters and continues to be one of the most popular faces of the Firm.
The Princess of Wales is not from an aristocratic background, and that normalcy shows in her reactions. She awkwardly laughs after accidentally breaking the pasta roller, loves fashionable clothes, is excited when talking to toddlers, and enjoys sports — much like the majority of the population. She is relatable. And that is exactly the quality that has not only increased her popularity but also strengthened the monarchy.
“She might have married into the Royal Family, with all the trappings that come with that, but her relatability is just what's needed in this turbulent time for the Firm,” royal editor Duncan Larcombe wrote for Woman & Home.
Larcombe further revealed how well Middleton adjusted to her royal life: “For some, a royal encounter is too much to contemplate, but Kate has always taken it in her stride.” In 2024, the princess revealed that in her early days in the royal family, she was teased for getting carried away on walkabouts. While she continues to be a talker even today, it is one of her most endearing qualities to fans. Every time she goes out of her way to chat with onlookers, it captures global headlines.
The royal expert met Middleton in 2005, during the early years of her courtship with Prince William. Although their meeting was “brief”, he was “struck” by one particular quality. “In our encounter I was struck by how sincere she seemed to be, and someone who had her head well and truly on her shoulders,” he wrote. That one quality has seemingly endured into her parenting, as she and William reportedly focus on raising their three kids with as much normalcy as possible.
After a wholesome summer break at Balmoral, the Princess of Wales returned to a hectic week of work engagements. She dropped off Prince George at Eton College, made an appearance alongside William in Liverpool, and most recently, made a surprise visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital.
