Kate Middleton Shares Rare Insight on Cancer Journey During Surprise Visit to Royal Marsden Hospital
Kate Middleton talked about her treatment and fund-raising efforts through the Three Peaks Challenge.
Months after completing her Three Peaks Challenge to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Hospital, Kate Middleton made a surprise visit to the medical institution to hear firsthand how the funds and ongoing support would transform holistic care for cancer patients across the UK. The Princess of Wales also opened up about her own harrowing journey with the disease and discussed the importance of “holistic care.”
The Princess of Wales previously underwent cancer treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital, making it a poignant site for her. That personal connection was key to her decision to support the facility during her Three Peaks Challenge in June. Speaking about the arduous trek, Middleton noted that her fundraising efforts were her “small way of being able to give back” and thank the medical institution for its care.
The beloved royal further reflected on her own treatment and revealed what made a difference in her recovery. “I had incredible care here and support from a huge team, and I'm really, really grateful on a personal level. But also the holistic care, the treatments, and therapeutic support on the outside are so important. It makes a big difference,” she said via PEOPLE.
It is no secret that battling cancer takes a heavy toll on physical, mental, and emotional well-being. Following her diagnosis, the Princess of Wales largely stepped back from the public eye to focus on her health and recovery. She later spoke about the vital role that nature, good nutrition, and a strong support system play when navigating the “trials and tribulations of medical treatments” becomes “really difficult.”
She added, “It makes a big difference. It made a big difference to me, and it made a huge difference for lots of patients whom I've spoken to.” The mother of three also mentioned that holistic care would be “transformative” not just for patients but for families as well. Prince William had earlier talked about the hard feelings the Wales family had gone through when the princess was diagnosed with cancer.
The Princess of Wales chose to wear a beautiful Suzannah London apple-green dress for the visit. This was her third public appearance this week after dropping off Prince George at Eton College and making a surprise appearance alongside William in Liverpool on Thursday.
