William and Kate Have One Strict Rule for Their Kids—and Harry and Meghan Couldn't Agree More

Kate and William have always tried their best to become friends with their kids, but like every other parent, they also have some strict household rules.

Prince William and Princess Kate have long strived to give their three children a childhood that feels as normal as possible, despite growing up in the spotlight. While they work hard to build a close, friendly bond with their kids, like any parents, they also enforce a few strict household rules that have recently drawn public attention. Interestingly, one rule in particular stands out—not just for its strictness, but because it reflects something Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have also spoken about over the years.

The Prince and Princess of Wales have decided that none of their children are old enough to have mobile phones just yet. Instead, the family prioritizes spending time together and having real conversations at home. Kate has previously explained why she is concerned about the impact of technology on young people. Writing about the issue, she said she fears for a generation "born into a world immersed in digital technology."

Talking about the gravity of the issue, she noted, “When we check our phones during conversations, scroll through social media during family dinners, or respond to emails while playing with our children, we’re not just being distracted, we are withdrawing the basic form of love that human connection requires.” Her husband, William, seconded her concerns and opened up about the same on Eugene Levy's show, The Reluctant Traveler. "None of our children have phones, which we're very strict about," he shared.

The Prince continued, "We sit and chat. It's really important." While William and Kate prioritize a normal, screen-free childhood for their kids, The Mirror reported that they also recognize the need for a basic communication device when necessary. Which is why Prince George will likely receive a simple phone when he starts at Eton in September. Interestingly, this is one parenting decision where William and Kate appear to align closely with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have repeatedly voiced concerns about the dangers of excessive screen time and social media, particularly for children. Through their Archewell Foundation, they have supported initiatives promoting safer online spaces and encouraged families to have open conversations about digital well-being. Mrkle has also highlighted the importance of being fully present with family rather than distracted by devices—a mindset that closely aligns with William and Kate’s parenting philosophy.

Beyond limiting technology, William and Kate are also known for being hands-on parents. The future king has often spoken about making time for school drop-offs and pick-ups despite his royal duties. "I do try and stick to school timetables as best as possible," he said while appearing on The Reluctant Traveller documentary. "Most days we're in and out of school doing pick-ups and drop-offs," he shared.

He continued, "Getting the balance of work and family life right is really important because, for me, the most important thing in my life is family." William has previously made it clear why spending time with his children matters so much to him. "If I can't give my time to my children... I worry about their future," he said long back. during a 2016 interview.
