Why Archie and Lilibet Are Unlikely to Reunite With George, Charlotte and Louis During UK Trip

Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet are traveling to the UK with their parents, but a meeting with their cousins is seemingly off the tables owing to busy schedules.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s upcoming UK trip in July has already garnered so much drama that Netflix could very well consider adapting it into a six-part limited series, with every episode introducing a new main character. For the longest time, the saga had primarily been centered around the Sussexes and their potential reunion with King Charles, most likely at Balmoral. The spotlight has now shifted to Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet joining the trip. Now, the central question is whether they will finally meet their cousins—George, Charlotte, and Louis. Unfortunately, that highly anticipated reunion looks unlikely.

Despite being first cousins, Archie and Lilibet have likely never met George, Charlotte, and Louis. The heartbreaking fact really does put into perspective just how much the Sussexes and the Waleses have lost due to the rift. However, the Sussex kids might not get to meet their cousins next month either, and logistical issues are likely to be blamed for that. “Even if relations are gradually improving, the Wales household likely has a full schedule already in place for the summer, and any reunion involving the cousins would require tons of planning and goodwill from all parties involved,” royal expert Amanda Matta said via Page Six

While scheduling conflicts may play a part in keeping the cousins away, the tension between their parents could also be “the biggest hurdle.” Matta further added, “Particularly if Catherine were to be involved in any potential plans.” Royal expert Emily Nash agreed with Matta’s claims, as she believed it was “far too soon” to predict the cousins meeting each other.

The royal family has always been known for their size. There are so many relatives, so many cousins; it must be really hard to keep track of the family tree. That trait might also set the stage for Archie and Lilibet to finally meet their cousins. “I mean, you never know. If it were part of a wider family gathering, it’s possible they could be at the same place at the same time. But, you know, given the very fractious nature of the relationship between William and Harry, I don’t see them rushing to spend time together just because Harry’s back in the UK,” Nash said.

The royal expert further believed that Prince William and Harry might need to resolve their issues before the kids can bond. “I think, fundamentally, you have two brothers here who were not speaking to one another. That is the key relationship that needs to be resolved, really, before anything else can happen,” she said. However, she believed that despite the differences, both parties would want to see their children unite at some point. “In any family, you would hope that cousins would have a chance to spend time together and grow up together, and I’m sure they don’t feel any differently,” Nash added.

Whether William and Harry finally choose to reconcile is a question that will likely be left to be answered for later. But so far, it seems that the Sussexes’ reunion with Charles is very much in the pipeline, with the monarch offering the family security and a royal residence to stay at during their time in the UK. If not their cousins, uncle, and aunt this time, at least Archie and Lilibet will likely reunite with their grandfather.
