The Surprising Thing Princess Charlotte and Princess Lilibet Might Bond Over During the July Visit
The two cousin sisters have never met but they can find a common ground to bond when Princess Lilibet comes to the UK in July.
Over the years, the rift between the Sussexes and the royal family has sadly boiled down to a string of unending PR crises, but the divide goes deeper than that. If one were to delve through the cracks, the differences have cost both parties their own family members. Despite being first cousins, Princess Lilibet and Princess Charlotte have likely never met. However, things might change as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are set to bring their kids, Prince Archie and Lilibet, to the UK in July, and a royal reunion is allegedly on the cards. This would not only be heartwarming but would also give the two cousins plenty of time to bond over their mutual love for plushies.
Lilibet and Charlotte share quite a few things in common. Both of them are reportedly huge fans of Jellycat, a British soft toy company who offer a range of different plushies. Last year, Lilibet was seen carrying one of Jellycat’s Amuseabales Rainbow Bags when Markle shared a BTS video of her brand, As Ever’s promotional shoots. Recently, she even sported a soft toy on her back in Markle’s Father’s Day post for Harry.
On the other hand, Charlotte’s love for cute Jellycat plushies has been frequently documented, and it’s not a new obsession. In 2015, when the young princess was only six months old, she appeared with a Fuddlewuddle, a toy dog from Jellycat, in her first-ever royal portrait. Her love for plushies was further proven when her parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton, were gifted two Jellycats, a pickled onion plushie, and a tarte au citron plushie at a garden party last year. “My children will love these. They are children’s currency,” William said via InStyle.
However, Lilibet and Charlotte are not the only royals with a soft spot for soft toys. Their grandfather, King Charles, reportedly still carries his childhood teddy bear everywhere with him. Harry had detailed his father’s affection for the toy in his memoir, Spare, writing, “Teddy went everywhere with Pa. It was a pitiful object, with broken arms and dangly threads, holes patched up here and there. It looked, I imagined, like Pa might have after the bullies had finished with him. Teddy expressed eloquently, better than Pa ever could, the essential loneliness of his childhood.”
Charles, who reportedly wants to meet his Sussex grandkids next month, might also bond over his love for soft toys with Lilibet. The 5-year-old might find some cute bonding activities with Charlotte as well. The latter is a huge Taylor Swift fan, and often makes friendship bracelets at home, which have become a regular accessory not just for her but for Charles and William as well. The 11-year-old princess can also teach her younger cousin the art of weaving the perfectly pink friendship bracelet next month.
Inspired by the generations of royals loving adorable plushies, The Royal Collection Trust and shops at royal properties recently began selling regal afternoon tea-themed Jellycats. The range reportedly includes a smiling teapot plush keyring, a matching fluffy teacup, a cucumber sandwich plush, and a strawberry cupcake keychain. If the July UK visit goes as imagined, it won’t be a surprise to see Lilibet and Charlotte carrying matching Jellycat plushies together.
