Prince Harry and King Charles have grown estranged in the years since the former's royal exit, with the Duke's BBC interview last month only making things worse. Although Harry made a public plea for reconciliation with his family, particularly his father, given his health, the royals have yet to extend him an olive branch. Rather, reports recently emerged that Harry once considered changing his surname to 'Spencer'. In light of the same, royal author Ingrid Seward has argued that had Charles taken responsibility for his son growing up, Harry would not have given him much worry today.

As per the Scottish Daily Express, Seward in her book My Mother and I, claimed that Harry’s lack of remorse is due to his father’s aversion to confrontation. She wrote, “Like his mother and grandmother, Charles hated confrontation and did what he usually did when faced with a crisis beyond his immediate control: turned away from it. This course of inaction would come to haunt Charles over the years.” She also detailed how the phone conversations between Harry and Charles, after the former’s marriage to Meghan Markle, included “various demands or requests, sometimes wrapped up in niceties.” Reflecting on their relationship over the years, Seward summed that all the issues the King faces now would not have happened if he had been ‘firmer.’ Seward wrote, “Again, had Charles been firmer with Harry and, to some extent, William, in their formative years, they might not have caused him so much worry.”

The author, who was once close to Princess Diana and saw Harry and Prince William grow up, further claimed the late Princess was allegedly more worried about how her younger son would turn out. Diana’s parenting tactics, in which she would let her sons do whatever they wanted, allegedly upset Queen Elizabeth. However, the author says that Harry learned his rule-breaking behavior from both his mother and father, as they did not discipline him in his early years.

During a conversation with Fox News, she said, “He went on with Diana's freestyle of bringing up children. Diana allowed them to do, more or less, what they wanted, which was very fashionable in those days. You let children just get on with things. Moreover, the author opined that Charles today perhaps ‘regrets’ not being strict with his sons. She said, “I think Charles probably regrets that he wasn't a bit stricter because it might have given both boys a few more boundaries.”

The King has not allegedly met Harry in over a year. In his interview with the BBC, the Duke of Sussex revealed that his father would not talk to him. Hinting at the monarch’s cancer battle, Harry worried over how much time he has left with his father and wished to reconcile. Since the interview, the royal family has not addressed Harry’s plea, with insiders claiming that there's no 'trust' left. According to sources, the senior royals are also worried that if they do, the details of their conversations would make it to the press, as Harry hasn't been shy is airing his grievances.
