Princess Eugenie Recycles Old Dress for Big Family Wedding — But the Reason Why Is Actually Quite Sweet
Princess Eugenie revived a familiar coronation look for Peter Phillips' wedding, bringing a special piece of her motherhood journey full circle.
Princess Eugenie clearly knows a thing or two about maternity style, choosing to rely on a tried-and-true wardrobe strategy for her latest public appearance. The royal stepped out for Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling's wedding in a look that she first wore to King Charles' coronation back in 2023. The appearance comes just weeks after she announced that she and husband Jack Brooksbank are expecting their third child.
Eugenie could be seen adorning a navy color scheme from head to toe for the wedding and completed the look with a coordinating headpiece. However, instead of debuting a new outfit, she reached back into her closet and wore the same coat from Charles' coronation festivities. She originally styled it with coordinating blue pieces and statement accessories. Moreover, she kept another detail the same by stepping out in the very same pair of Fendi heels.
But there’s a sweet, sentimental twist to this wardrobe repeat. When Eugenie originally wore the coat to the 2023 coronation, she was heavily pregnant with her second son, Ernest, who arrived just weeks later. Rewearing the piece for her third pregnancy makes the outfit a special, recurring marker of her motherhood journey.
Eugenie did not arrive at the wedding alone and was joined by her husband, Jack Brooksbank. Meanwhile, her sister Princess Beatrice and her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, also stepped out to celebrate the wedding. The sisters' joint appearance comes after weeks of renewed speculation regarding their official roles within the institution. Both have faced intense scrutiny in recent years after their parents, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson's, ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein returned to the spotlight.
However, they were welcomed warmly by the members of the firm, even amid all the controversies. Despite rumors suggesting that Prince William had ‘frozen out’ the York sisters, he could be seen placing a kiss on Beatrice’s cheek at the event. Moreover, they were also greeted by other members, including Zara Tindall and her 12-year-old daughter Mia Tindall, outside the All Saints Church.
However, the sisters have recently found themselves at the center of a fresh wave of public scrutiny. Earlier this month, the National Audit Office (NAO) released a comprehensive report on the royal family's housing arrangements, revealing that Beatrice and Eugenie spent nearly two decades living rent-free in apartments at Kensington Palace and St. James's Palace. While their housing costs were actually covered by King Charles’s Privy Purse—his private income—critics have heavily questioned the arrangement. The pushback stems from the fact that the Privy Purse is funded by the Duchy of Lancaster, a massive estate passed down from monarch to monarch that many argue should face greater public accountability.
