The annual event of Royal Ascot began on June 17 with a brief but embarrassing setback. The procession was passing through Cheapside, Berkshire, when the reins of Anne’s carriage fell. An Ascot resident named Paul Arora, who witnessed the incident, shared details with the Daily Express. Arora was among the many locals who had gathered to catch a glimpse of the royal family marching toward the racetrack for the sporting event. He revealed, “It was a quintessential English scene where the King and members of the royal family made their way through a small village this morning for the start of Royal Ascot. Many of the locals turned out to show their support and were blessed by the wonderful weather. However, the royals were not so blessed as one of the carriages had a horse break its reins.”

According to the witness, the 'mishap' caused a delay and also became one of the biggest takeaways from the event. He shared, “We noted it had caused a delay for a few minutes, and royal aides rushed to help fix the problem, which they appeared to do so very efficiently. Shortly after, the procession continued, and all was well. After the mishap occurred, my friends were discussing the incident... it made quite the talking point!” According to GB News, a source revealed the delay was of about five minutes. They added, “The Royal Grooms sprang into action to fix the harness, and after a delay of a few minutes, the carriage was back in action on its way to Ascot.” Besides Anne, the Duke and Duchess of Wellington and Mrs Annabel Eliot were also in the said carriage. Allegedly, King Charles waited up the hill until Anne’s carriage was fixed and up and running.
The mega event was founded by Queen Anne in the early 18th century. The five-day festival, known for its heritage and outstanding racing, is celebrated in June in Ascot, England. Allegedly attracting thousands of racegoers, it is telecast in over 180 territories across the world. This year, was particularly special as it was the 200th year. Following a successful outing on Day 1, Kate Middleton opted out of Day 2, June 18, for an undisclosed reason. The sudden decision by the Princess of Wales has left the public worried as they wonder if it has to do with her health.
