Prince William's Clear Stance on King Charles' Meeting With Prince Harry Revealed
While Prince Harry and King Charles quietly met at Highgrove, Prince William was away from the reconciliation scene.
For weeks and months, a potential royal reunion between King Charles and Prince Harry had become the sole talking point about Harry’s visit to the UK for the Invictus Games event. However, when the warring father-son duo finally met, they met quietly at Highgrove, the monarch’s private property. Reportedly, Meghan Markle and the catalysts behind the reconciliation, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, had also joined Harry in Gloucestershire. However, when Charles and Harry took personal strides, Prince William, the missing piece of the jigsaw puzzle, was out doing royal duty. But the question of the hour isn’t whether the two brothers will meet; it is what William thinks about Charles’ meeting with the Sussexes.
According to royal expert Robert Jobson, the Prince of Wales may not be too worried about the royal reunion, and he is very clear where his equation with his younger brother stands. Jobson recently told Newsweek, “William will not be losing sleep over his father’s afternoon meeting with his brother and family, but nor will he be softening. He feels betrayed. He does not trust his brother. That is personal, and it is settled.”
Since last week, William has been rather busy. He visited the London Welsh School, traveled to Hastings, participated in the Royal Charity Polo Cup, and joined his wife, Kate Middleton, and kids, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, for the Gentlemen’s Singles Final at Wimbledon. While he might be rather too preoccupied to worry about family drama, as per royal expert Ingrid Seward, he would not be interested in getting involved. “I don't think William would give it the time of day. His attitude is 'let them all get on with it, I don't want to get involved.' Just complete disinterest,” she said.
While Harry had a tumultuous first week back in the UK, from being turned away from Buckingham Palace and losing his legal battle against Associated Newspapers, his older brother was largely away from the entire conversation. William had no part to play in the ongoing saga.
However, one couldn’t really blame the fans, who had hoped the two brothers, who were once extremely close, would sort out their differences, especially since Charles was reportedly ready to mend fences. However, the distinguishing factor is the nature of the two relationships. "Father and son is not brother and brother, and grandfather and grandchildren is different again," Jobson pointed out, "Charles can do this (meet Harry). William is under no obligation to follow, and he will not be rushed into it. The distance stands."
The meeting between the Sussexes and the King reportedly happened away from camera lenses and other media. The Palace described it as a “private family occasion”. Charles met his two grandchildren after four years.
