Archie and Lilibet 'Awestruck' After Meeting King Charles, But One Detail Tells a Different Story
Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's reunion with King Charles has royal fans celebrating but also second-guessing one missing detail.
On July 10, royal fans finally got the news they had been hoping for when Buckingham Palace confirmed that King Charles had reunited with his US-based grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at Highgrove House. The private gathering took place after Meghan Markle traveled with the children from their European holiday to join Prince Harry in the UK. While the momentous meetup generated largely positive headlines, the absence of an official family photograph has sparked questions over whether the visit truly marks a genuine thaw in relations.
Shortly after the meeting, the Palace confirmed that the Sussexes saw the King and Queen for about an hour in Gloucestershire, as Charles had been carrying out official engagements in Oxfordshire, while Harry had been in Birmingham for the one-year countdown of the 2027 Invictus Games. Weighing in on the long-awaited reunion, a source told Woman's Day, "Archie and Lilibet were totally awestruck by everything they witnessed, and it has really opened the door for Harry to tell them more about their heritage and what it means to be a part of the monarchy." They added, "Harry and Meghan are also under no illusions that this reunion with Charles would have happened if he hadn't been so desperate to see his grandchildren."
That being said, the insider stressed that the Sussex children are allegedly carrying Harry and Meghan's "hopes and dreams for the future," particularly regarding their business and public image. They continued, "Meghan sees enormous value in them [Archie and Lilibet] embracing that side of who they are because it's something that can only strengthen the whole family's future prospects, and that includes the future of her brand." Furthermore, the source argued that the meeting underscored the crucial role Archie and Lilibet play in forging a positive path forward with Charles and the rest of the royal family.
Interestingly, despite Harry and Markle's alleged wish for their children to build their brand, the lack of an official photo from the meetup delivered a telling message. Commenting on this, royal columnist Rob Shuter quoted a source on his Naughty But Nice Substack, "If Buckingham Palace wanted the world to see this as a reconciliation, there would have been a picture. The fact that there wasn't tells you everything you need to know." Shuter argued that the meeting ultimately remained precisely what the Palace intended it to be—a private family moment between the King, his son, and his grandchildren, rather than a public rehabilitation of the Sussex brand.
