Prince William Gets Cheeky When Asked About America's 250th Anniversary: 'There Were Times'
Prince William is the second-best person to give his British take on America's upcoming milestone and he did that rather amusingly.
The 4th of July is a polarizing date, and the only dividing line between two extreme opinions is the Atlantic Ocean. On one side, the US celebrates its freedom from the British; on the other side, the UK has to take the festivities with a bit of a sting. As the future King of England, Prince William is in the second-best position to react to the US marking its 250th anniversary this year. And he did that rather too hilariously when he appeared on Travis Kelce and Jason Kelce’s podcast, The New Heights Show, on Friday.
As the talk shifted from soccer and Wembley Stadium to the upcoming 250th anniversary, Jason asked William, “America is turning 250 years this year. Be honest. Are you surprised we made it?” William immediately responded, “There were times. There were times. Yeah.” While surely the NFL stars are known for making internet-breaking jokes on their podcasts, the Prince of Wales’ deadpan humor is no less. And he proved it with his funny responses in the podcast episode.
However, William further mentioned, “But I'd like to think the U.K. and the U.S. would be together for those 250 years. It's a good brotherhood.” Jason agreed, saying, “It has been a really good brotherhood.”
The Kelces may have shared screen space with William for the first time, but this is certainly not their maiden meeting. The two brothers have not only met the Prince of Wales but also interacted with Prince George and Princess Charlotte. The royals had attended Travis’s now-fiancée and pop star Taylor Swift’s Eras tour concert at Wembley Stadium in 2024, the same day as William’s 42nd birthday. It was there that the NFL superstars met with British royalty.
As William and Swift have shared camaraderie for years, he was naturally asked whether he was attending the singer-songwriter’s upcoming wedding to Travis when he appeared on the Heart Breakfast radio show a month ago. The prince had hinted that he might receive an invitation, but so far there have been no reports that William or Kate Middleton will be attending the nuptials, which are expected to take place at Madison Square Garden in New York on July 3rd, 2026.
With the much-awaited MSG wedding set to kick off soon, William’s guest appearance on the groom’s podcast was a jaw-dropping surprise. And the prince didn’t disappoint with his hilarious jokes and quick replies.
