Prince William Confronted Over Andrew Scandal During Recent Trip — and He Almost Answered

Prince William’s visit to Cornwall for St. Piran’s Day, celebrated as the country’s national day, got tense for a brief moment when he was confronted by a member of the public while greeting well-wishers and posing for pictures. As he stood in the crowd, smiling for selfies and shaking hands, one man shouted a question regarding Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the ongoing controversy surrounding him. The man asked, “How long have you known about Andrew?” William appeared to have responded with a “sorry?” in a tone that suggested he either hadn’t clearly heard the question or chose not to engage with it. He then continued to take photos and meet others in the crowd, maintaining the royal engagement’s upbeat pace. His acknowledging the question had many thinking he was almost ready to make a statement, but unfortunately, the prince passed over it quickly.

The moment was captured on video and circulated widely online. Another part of the clip showed a police officer stepping in to question the man after the exchange. When asked why he had chosen to confront the prince at such a moment, the latter replied, “It’s the only chance I get to speak with him.” The clip quickly gained traction on Twitter after TV personality from Good Morning Britain, Narinder Kaur, shared it on the platform. She wrote, “The police questioning someone on why they asked Prince William a question. William has been heckled in Cornwall over his complicity in the Andrew scandal.”

Her post soon led to a heated debate on social media. It led to a sharp divide among users as they discussed whether the question was appropriate or not. Some believed public figures funded by taxpayers should expect to face uncomfortable scrutiny. One user commented, “Fair question from a British taxpayer who helps pay for the Prince imo.” Another wrote, “The Royals not allowed to be pressed on matters like this. Legitimate question though, William will have known a long time.” Another reflected that the moment was telling of a broader sentiment by explaining, “Even Prince William is getting heckled in the street over his involvement in the Andrew scandal. They won’t be able to walk down the street. Public awakening happening.”

Others, however, were pushing back against the backlash and defending William. They argued that linking him directly to a controversy surrounding his uncle was unfair. One user shared, “And rightly so. They should leave him alone. Prince William was the only one who told the King to get rid of Andrew after he had done that cringeworthy interview with Emily Maitlis in 2019." Another supporter wrote, “I guess within his master of the final art of knowing when to speak and when not to speak." Another user echoed similar sentiments and said, “His complicity? Care to expand, or are you, like so many others, simply accusing him of wrongdoing because his Uncle is a wrongun?”

The confrontation at Cornwall came at a time when the royal family is continuing to navigate growing discourse linked to the latest developments involving Mountbatten-Windsor. Since his arrest on February 19, tensions have occasionally spilled into public engagements. Both King Charles and Queen Camilla were also questioned regarding the same matters on separate appearances in recent days. Despite the disruptions, the monarchy has continued to maintain a united front, choosing to ignore the hecklers and continue with official duties. Shortly after Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest, King Charles had issued a statement via Buckingham Palace stating firmly, "The law must take its course.”
