Prince Harry's Hopes of a Royal Family Reunion Could Be In Serious Trouble

It has long been known that the relationship between Prince Harry and King Charles has deteriorated since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal duties. The situation worsened further due to the couple's bold public interviews and the release of Harry’s controversial memoir, Spare. Although the father and son have met a few times briefly in recent years, reports suggest that their bond remains fragile. Now, a source has claimed that Charles has responded to Harry’s alleged wish to visit Sandringham this summer with Meghan and their kids.
According to some of Harry's friends, he is hoping for an invitation from Charles to bring his family to Norfolk, allowing the King to spend some time with his grandchildren. The Duke of Sussex is eager to mend the long-standing rift with the royal family. However, sources close to the monarch claimed that 'low trust' and 'bitter experience' remain a major obstacle to rebuilding that bond, as reported by the Daily Mail. One of the King's friends said, "If Harry truly wishes to see his father, he would do well to encourage his supporters to allow such matters to be discussed privately, since low trust and bitter experience in this regard remains one of the principal barriers to progress." Hence, it seems that the King might still be reluctant to invite Prince Harry and his family to Sandringham this summer.
Charles last saw his grandchildren during Queen Elizabeth's Platinum Jubilee celebrations in June 2022, when Harry and Meghan travelled to the UK. Speaking of their most recent face-to-face meeting, Harry and Charles met briefly for 55 minutes over tea at Clarence House in September last year. This marked their first in-person conversation in 19 months. However, they did not meet when Harry returned to the UK in January this year for his privacy trial against Associated Newspapers, highlighting their ongoing rift, as reported by HELLO Magazine.
It is also worth noting that the Duke is currently awaiting a legal decision on his security arrangements for visits to the UK. The situation arises as ever since they stepped back from the position of senior royals, he and Meghan have lost all access to automatic taxpayer-funded armed protection from Scotland Yard. However, if the monarch invites him, it would automatically give them the required security. Speaking of this, a source close to Harry said, "If he were invited by the King, he would get a package of security that automatically kicks in."
The person added, "He’d like an invite to Sandringham. Would he go? It would depend on who was there. If the King were to say, 'Come up and spend some time with the family,’ he’d love that. There are lots of scenarios to make it work, but it's all out of Harry's hands. No father would want to put their kids at any risk." Meanwhile, Prince William and Kate Middleton also spend much of their holidays at Sandringham House, where they own the country home, Anmer Hall.
