Prince Harry Wasn’t Surprised by Charles Spencer’s Bombshell Diana Memoir—Here’s Why

Nearly three decades after Princess Diana’s tragic death, her family is revisiting the chaos of her final days and the trauma surrounding her loss. Her brother, Charles Spencer, has written a memoir titled Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, set to be released on September 22. While promoting the book, Spencer stated that the book will reveal previously undisclosed details, a claim backed up by a recent excerpt published in the Daily Mail. In it, he opened up about a gasp-worthy phone conversation that he had with the then-Prince Charles shortly after Diana passed away.
Elaborating on this, Spencer wrote, “Prince Charles continued his stream of anger, without me interrupting. Then he stopped. I assumed the pause signaled an effort to bring himself under control, but then he unleashed down the phone what I have always taken to be his pent-up contempt for Diana and his horror that the world was so bowled over by her death. ‘Rest assured,’ he hissed, ‘we’ll forget her soon enough!’” This bombshell has taken the world by storm. However, an exclusive report by Page Six suggests Prince Harry may have already known that his uncle was about to re-open these deep, old wounds for the royal family.
Elaborating on this, a source close to the Duke stated, “Harry knew what was in the book—it didn’t come as a shock!” According to the report, the Duke of Sussex discussed the memoir and its content in July, when Harry visited the Althorp estate with Meghan Markle, Prince Archie, and Princess Lilibet. The report also made it clear that Spencer’s memoir is going to “open up long-closed wounds about Charles and Diana’s troubled marriage that was plagued by infidelity and ended in divorce in August 1996.” Additionally, the Earl details his firm stance against Prince William and Prince Harry walking in their mother’s funeral procession, maintaining that Diana would have never wanted her sons to endure such a public ordeal following their loss.
Furthermore, according to Vogue, Harry, who recently celebrated his 42nd birthday with his family, had already informed his uncle in advance about his plans to move back to the UK. This exchange makes it clear that Harry and his family share a warm, close relationship with Spencer. Harry also reportedly maintains a wonderful bond with Diana’s sisters, Lady Sarah McCorquodale and Lady Jane Fellowes. Prince William, on the other hand, reportedly does not, preferring to keep his relationship with Diana’s side of the family much more low-key.
