Prince Harry and King Charles Can Still Reconcile — But There's One Condition, Says Royal Expert
While the Buckingham Palace drama might have hinted at a full stop to a reunion between Prince Harry and King Charles, that doesn't have to be the case.
The talks of a royal reunion had been abuzz ever since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s UK trip was announced. However, the chatter hit an abrupt end when the Duke of Sussex was turned away from Buckingham Palace hours after he confirmed his stay there this week. There has been a lot of confusion as to why that happened. His and the royal version of events starkly differ, and many believed this could mark the painful end of his path towards reconciliation with his father, King Charles. However, a royal expert believes otherwise.
Richard Palmer, royal reporter for the i-Paper, recently wrote that Charles and Harry could still mend fences, despite the heartbreaking turn of events. However, according to him, both parties will need to make emotional adjustments and compromises to reunite. “A compromise may be possible, but to really fix their problems, according to some insiders, the King will need to have confidence that his younger son has moved on and will no longer embarrass him and the monarchy. At the same time, Harry will need to have confidence that his father is really there for him, Meghan, and the children.”
The primary reason behind the reconciliation was said to be Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. The King hadn’t met his grandchildren in four years and really wanted to, so much so that he was ready to fix ties with Harry and Markle for their sake. However, the Duchess of Sussex and the kids did not come to London with the Duke. They are speculated to join Harry when his tour reaches the Midlands. However, that still doesn’t count out a family meeting with Charles. “Meghan and the children will now not join him in London, but there is still a chance that they could come over and meet the King or other family members outside the capital this week, according to sources,” Palmer wrote.
The reporter also quoted a friend close to the Duke who believed the entire Buckingham Palace drama had been made to humiliate Harry, as they said, “I think it absolutely was done to try and humiliate Harry. Step back from all of this, it is obvious to anyone that some at the Palace have done everything in their power to make this trip as difficult and as hostile a landscape as possible for Harry.”
The friend further added, “Unfortunately, that attitude has been the case for some time. Frankly, everyone in Harry’s team is rather resigned to this sort of behavior whenever he comes to town. It’s notable that such a circus doesn’t happen when he’s back in the States or when he visits any other country.”
Despite the saga, the King and the prince can still meet. “The King, it seems clear, has lost patience with Harry. But in spite of that, father and son are believed to have been in direct touch recently,” Palmer wrote. The Duke is already going through a tough time after losing his case against the Associated Newspapers this week. So, a meeting with his father might take off some of the emotional burden.
