Paloma Faith Asked Princess Kate About Her Postpartum Weight — and Things Got ‘Uncomfortable’ Quickly
Quickly realizing her misstep, Paloma Faith turned to comedian Rosie Jones to help her exit the embarrassing situation.
The thought of meeting a royal family member can give anyone cold feet, a feeling Paloma Faith knows all too well. The British singer recalled making a major faux pas when she met Kate Middleton at the 2023 Royal Variety Performance, asking about her rapid weight loss after the birth of Prince Louis. Quickly realizing her mishap in front of the future queen, Faith admitted she painstakingly turned to comedian Rosie Jones, using her disability as an excuse to exit the embarrassing situation.
Speaking on her Mad, Sad, and Bad podcast on April 7, Faith, a mother of two daughters at the time, revealed she meant to ask Middleton for postpartum weight loss tips. She recalled, "I said, 'Didn't you look good postpartum, Kate. How have you lost that weight so quickly?' Before going on to chat to the Princess about kids and stuff." However, after she realized her question was slightly inappropriate, she turned to Jones, who has ataxic cerebral palsy, for help. She added, "I looked at her [Jones] and said, 'Can we just say that, because you're disabled, we have to go, and you need me to help you?'"
Further explaining how she sheepishly exited the conversation, Faith continued that Jones "helped me in a very non-PC way by allowing me to abuse and use her disability to get myself out of a potentially uncomfortable situation with some royal family members." Lucky for her, it seems the Princess of Wales didn't take the question to heart, even inviting the singer to perform at her Together at Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey in 2024. Fast forward to March 2026, and Faith has welcomed a baby boy, so it seems she might find herself in need of that royal-approved advice after all.
Faith's podcast revelation came just four weeks after she gave birth to her baby boy on March 6, describing him as 'perfect and wonderful' whilst speaking about the challenges of breastfeeding. She and Middleton seem to have a good bond, as they have met numerous times before. Their first encounter came in 2017 at the Royal Variety Performance, where Middleton and Prince William met with the singer backstage. She also performed at Middleton's 2024 carol service, singing a powerful rendition of The Christmas.
As for Middleton's so-called postpartum weight loss, she had given birth to Louis in 2018, giving her ample time to get back in shape. According to PEOPLE, fitness experts linked to her emphasized that light exercises such as walking and cardio-sculpting, combined with gradual postnatal workouts, helped her lose weight. The Princess has also joked that running after her two oldest children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, helped her stay fit. Overall, her commitment to balanced nutrition, active parenting, and steady fitness habits, rooted in consistency, seemed to have worked in her favor.
