Megyn Kelly Slams Harry and Meghan Over Aussie Hospital Visit — and She’s Not the Only One
Megyn Kelly tore apart Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for turning their Royal Children's Hospital visit into a self-focused photo-op.
No matter their good intentions, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle continue to attract public ire, with critics quick to find fault. One of their most vocal detractors, American journalist Megyn Kelly, has once again accused the Duke and Duchess of Sussex of turning a charitable event into a self-focused photo-op. On her podcast, she took them to task for allowing cameras to follow their every move during their April 14 visit to the Royal Children's Hospital in Melbourne, Australia.
During their visit, the Sussexes spent 90 minutes chatting and taking selfies with young cancer patients before receiving a tour of the wards. Weighing in on their so-called attention-grabbing behavior, Kelly slammed on The Megyn Kelly Show podcast, "She [Markle] goes to a children's hospital where they focus on cancer victims and makes it into a photo op for her. Of course, God forbid they [Harry and Markle] just go and visit the sick children in Melbourne." She added, "No, they have to have cameras and get their cheers and applause… because does it ever matter if it's not on camera?"
Continuing her brutal dressing-down, she continued, "Like, how many times have you gone to do charitable work and you just make sure you've got your cameras in tow so that you get the credit? That's the bottom line." To which her fellow guest from Ruthless, Michael Duncan, said, "When they [Harry and Markle] made this whole schism with the royal family, it was nothing but Netflix deals and podcasts… and it all fell apart. So, now she [Markle] feels like she is sort of crawling back to the public consciousness by doing all the things she complained about when she was in the royal family."
In Duncan's view, Harry and Markle seem incapable of making up their minds, whether they want the fame or wish to remain private with their lives. He stressed, "The whole thing kind of feels schizophrenic. It's like, did you want to be part of the royal family or not? I thought you didn't like doing any of these things, so why don't you just go away?" As for their hospital visit, social media users also expressed concern that certain patients in the crowd, who had initially been wearing face masks, may have been immunocompromised, given their proximity to large groups of people and the couple.
Unsurprisingly, this isn't the first, and certainly not the last time, that Kelly has torn apart the Sussexes. On a March episode of her podcast, she dissected Harry and Markle's February NBA game outing. She criticized, "She [Markle] recently attended an NBA game and, because she doesn't really like publicity, she sat courtside." Speaking about a viral video, which showed Markle allegedly asking Harry to smile at the cameras, she argued, "You can't miss the, 'Darling, this is the whole reason we're here… Look into the d--- camera and get me my shot. If you're not looking, then they're not looking at me.'"
