Meghan Markle Gets Candid About Life and Her Ultimate 'Love Language' At MasterChef Australia
Markle has previously revealed her love language twice on her Emmy-nominated hit Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.
Meghan Markle is riding high on success after an eventful few days. First, she secured an audience with King Charles after almost four years at his Highgrove residence in the UK, alongside Prince Harry and her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Next, a surprise Emmy announcement placed her among this year's standout entertainers, with her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan, nominated for Outstanding Lifestyle Program at the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards. Then came an unexpected TV appearance as a guest judge on MasterChef Australia's eighteenth series. The Duchess shared the panel with fellow judges Jean-Christophe Novelli, Poh Ling Yeow, and Sofia Levin, opening up about her life and culinary passions in a refreshing, rare glimpse of her personality.
During the show, Markle tasked competitors with a challenge featuring her favorite ingredients, including carrots, Jerusalem artichokes, Brussels sprouts, celeriac, Australian honey, macadamias, quince, citrus fruits, and strawberries, GBN News reported. While supervising the challenge, she shared a rare insight into her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet's, eating habits: "My kids eat Brussels sprouts," the Duchess revealed. Turning to her culinary philosophy, Markle disclosed, "Food and cooking to me is really a love language. I think it's such a great way to connect. It's something that can feel sentimental and meaningful, and it's how I show my nurturing and love for my friends, family, and my kids." However, she said she isn't accustomed to the high-stakes drama on set. "I don't like to cook that way. I like to cook in a really relaxed fashion," the Duchess confessed.
When it comes to her culinary preferences, the Duchess embraces her Californian roots, favoring grilled fish and meats paired with citrus and simple herbs like basil and oregano. Contestants were pleasantly surprised as the former Suits actress mingled with them. Leading finalist Petro Papathomas expressed his admiration, highlighting her kindness and insightful conversations about food—a stark contrast to the often mixed narratives surrounding her in the media. This is hardly the first time the Duchess has spoken candidly about her love for food as a way to forge meaningful connections. In With Love, Meghan, she emphasizes that feeding people is her “love language,” a sentiment highlighted early in the series when she shares a “family favorite” recipe—single-skillet spaghetti—with her friend Daniel Martin, InStyle Magazine reported.
"You’ve always shown your love through food," Martin tells her. "It’s a big love language," Markle responds. Later, in the sixth episode, she reiterates, "I love feeding people. I think it’s probably my love language." It seems this signature way of showing love has finally paid off, earning her well-deserved accolades with the Emmy nomination.
