King Charles Takes a Page From Harry and Meghan’s Book — Signs a Netflix Deal in Surprising Move

It seems King Charles may have learned a thing or two from Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, as he is set to make his Netflix debut with a special documentary. The monarch will be featured in a project celebrating the 50th anniversary of The King’s Trust, his eponymous charity. Just like his son and daughter-in-law in California, Charles will also rub shoulders with Hollywood icons, such as Idris Elba. His debut project with the streaming giant is reportedly set to release next year.
As reported by Hello! magazine, the show will follow Charles and Elba as the monarch "offers rare access and insights into his support for the Trust over the past five decades." Elba will be closely involved in the project, with his production company, 22 Summers, producing the one-off episode. Commenting on the documentary, a Palace aid dished, "The King is pleased for The Trust to have this wonderful opportunity to showcase their work to a global audience, sharing the compelling stories of some of the more than 1 million young people it has helped in Britain and internationally over the past 50 years."
The series will also feature young people who have received assistance from the trust, including Elba, who was helped during his youth. Established in 1976 by Charles, The King’s Trust supports vulnerable young people in rebuilding their lives. It helps individuals aged 11 to 30 who are unemployed, facing difficulties in school, or at risk of exclusion, offering them opportunities to get back on track. Speaking of his role in the documentary, Elba said, "At a time when I didn't have the resources to pursue my ambitions, they offered real, practical support – including financial help – that helped me take those first steps to advance my career...this documentary is about shining a light on what's possible when it does – and why the work of The King's Trust remains so important."
Charles, as such, seems to have taken a page from Harry and Markle's book. As per Marie Claire, in 2020, after the couple stepped back from royal duties, they signed a reported $100 million five-year contract with Netflix. Their deal kicked off with the 2022 docuseries, Harry & Meghan, which broke records as Netflix’s biggest documentary debut and remains its second most-watched docuseries. This was followed by Live to Lead and Heart of Invictus, centered around the 2020 Invictus Games. More recently, Netflix released two individual projects: Harry’s Polo and Markle's lifestyle cooking show, With Love, Meghan, in December 2024 and March 2025, respectively.

As for the Sussexes’ relationship with Charles, their bond remains strained after a series of damaging interviews and scathing remarks about the royal family. Royal expert Hilary Fordwich told Fox News Digital that Charles sees Harry as a 'loose cannon' and refrains from speaking with him, fearing that private conversations could be leaked to the media. Summing up the chances of a reunion, she said, “There is no sign of reconciliation.”
