After Prince Harry's recent private reunion with his father, King Charles, at Highgrove, reports suggest that the monarch has taken another step toward reconciliation by offering his younger son a room at Buckingham Palace during his upcoming September visit to the UK. These gestures, however, are causing friction with the heir apparent, Prince William. The Prince of Wales is believed to have played a key role in handling matters behind the scenes in recent years, but the King's renewed efforts to reconnect with Harry have allegedly left him deeply frustrated. Now, a royal expert has warned that the apparent divide between Charles and William could damage the monarchy's public image as Harry's long-running security dispute continues.

The Daily Mail reported that Prince William is highly cautious about Prince Harry's actions, which could "overshadow the valuable work the monarchy is doing in the media". Talking to the outlet, royal author Richard Fitzwilliams highlighted that William and Charles must air their differences separately and put a united front while dealing with Harry. Fitzwilliams pointed out that the ailing monarch is obviously thrilled to reconnect with his grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, at the beginning of this month. However, this has been the bone of contention for William. "The most disastrous thing that could happen to the monarchy would be a falling out between King Charles and Prince William, who, together with his family, is its future," the royal author stated. "They obviously plan future visits. They want the King to see more of his grandchildren, which is totally understandable. Things will undoubtedly be better arranged regarding accommodation and, hopefully, security in future," he further highlighted about the Sussexes.

The royal author further highlighted that the King might attend the Invictus Games next year since he is the head of the army, which would mean great support to Harry. However, the expert also noted that William's attitude towards his younger brother during the intimate meeting with the King defined his stance. Calling it part of his "strategy," the royal author addressed that any efforts towards mending the relations must be taken up privately. He further stressed that William and Charles must appear united: "When there are disputes between families, reconciliation should always be welcomed. However, it often comes at a cost," he stated. "There is a lot to play for, and obviously we must hope one of the world's most public family disputes is gradually resolved." He explained that the future of the monarchy depended on how William and Charles handled the matter publicly and privately.

Meanwhile, in a similar vein, royal author Tina Brown asserted the importance of presenting a united front, as confusion among the public is detrimental. She suggested that Queen Camilla and Catherine could help facilitate unity. Brown noted that the tension between Charles and Harry is affected by William's disapproval of Harry's public actions, with some in the Prince of Wales' circle viewing the recent reconciliation as a concession to manipulation.
