Kensington Palace Breaks Silence on Prince William’s Plans for Diana’s 30th Death Anniversary

Princess Diana's legacy remains deeply intertwined with her two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. However, the royal brothers have maintained radio silence with no signs of an imminent reconciliation. With Diana's 30th death anniversary fast approaching, public interest in how the milestone will be commemorated is intensifying. Harry has reportedly reached out to his mother's close friends for support regarding an unnamed documentary. Meanwhile, Charles Spencer also hinted that one of his nephews is discreetly working on a film in his latest memoir, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister. Amid growing speculation, Kensington Palace has stepped in to clarify Prince William's involvement.
Kensington Palace neither confirmed nor denied William's potential participation in a documentary commemorating the upcoming 30th anniversary of Princess Diana's death next August, following reports that he had received several proposals related to the milestone. "We wouldn't comment on how the Prince of Wales will mark the anniversary. William has been approached with many offers and is thinking hard about what he wants to do," a palace spokesperson told the Daily Mail.
The statement came after royal commentator Richard Eden claimed that the Prince of Wales is considering his own television project to honor his late mother. While William has maintained a strict, restrained silence when it comes to Diana and their relationship, Harry has been very vocal about his emotional and mental struggles following her loss in his memoir Spare.
On the 20th anniversary of their mother's death, the two brothers famously collaborated on the BBC documentary Diana, Our Mother: Her Life and Legacy. However, given they remain estranged from each other, a joint effort appears off the table this time. Meanwhile, a source close to Harry stated, "The Duke has discussed a number of possible projects. Nothing has been finalised or confirmed, and he is still considering the most meaningful way to honour his mother’s legacy during this important anniversary year." Any potential documentary could be produced by the Sussexes' Archewell Productions, which holds a first-look agreement with Netflix for its film and television projects.
Meanwhile, Earl Spencer, through his latest book, revealed that one of his nephews had approached him to participate in a documentary about his late sister. He noted that as the 30th anniversary of her death approached, he continued to decline numerous requests to appear in various documentaries, including offers from Diana's biographer Andrew Morton and Tony Blair's spin doctor, Alastair Campbell. However, it remains unclear whether the nephew referenced is William or Harry.
