Kate Middleton Stunned Wimbledon Fans With One Surprisingly Down-to-Earth Gesture
The Princess of Wales once again proved why her Wimbledon outings remain among the most anticipated moments of the Championships.
Over the years, Kate Middleton's Wimbledon appearances have become one of the most anticipated moments of the iconic tennis tournament. As patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016, the Princess of Wales is said to be a devoted enthusiast of the sport. Every year during the tournament, she is seen presenting trophies on Centre Court, showcasing her elegant fashion choices, and engaging in heartfelt conversations with players and fans. Similarly, this year, Middleton once again charmed the spectators with a down-to-earth move that reminded us why her presence remains a major highlight.
On Thursday, July 2, the Princess made a stylish arrival at the All England Club, dressed in a vibrant blue tailored suit with her hair pulled into a sleek ponytail. What surprised everyone the most was that she chose to begin her visit not like a VIP, but among the crowds. She stopped by Wimbledon's famous queue, delighting and chatting with tennis fans who had spent hours, and in some cases even overnight, waiting for the chance to secure the precious tickets.
During her time there, Middleton also met with the Club's Honorary Stewards, the volunteers who help manage Wimbledon's famous queue and welcome fans arriving at the Championships each year. She then headed to Court 18, where she was joined by former British Number One Tim Henman and All England Club chair Deborah Jevans to watch Britain's Arthur Fery take on Finland's Otto Virtanen in the second round. The popular royal even met children from the Shine Camera Club, which is a photography program that helps young people from disadvantaged backgrounds build confidence through creative photography skills.
As reported by The Mirror, a retired building surveyor, Maurice Jones, who unexpectedly crossed paths with Middleton on Thursday, said, “It was very nice to speak to her. I had no idea she would be here. I was very pleased that she was about and that she did the long walk (the Three Peaks challenge) the other day." He added, “She asked me which court are you going to be watching and which players I’m going to be watching. I told her we’re in number one court. She said, ‘I hope you have a nice time, it’s a good day for it’." Another person, a psychotherapist Clare Cox from south-east London, who was at the venue with her daughter Lois, also spoke fondly of Middleton.
She said, "She (Middleton) looked so normal just walking past. I expected her to be surrounded by security, but she wasn't. She looked so lovely. She always gets it right with her outfits and her hair." Lois went on to admit, "I was like, 'Is that Kate Middleton! She was wearing a lovely trouser suit." Meanwhile, in previous years, the Princess of Wales has often attended matches from the opening days through the finals. But that changed in 2024 after she revealed she was undergoing cancer treatment, leading her to limit her appearances only to the championship's closing weekend.
